Who will the Tifosi take into their hearts now that Schumacher has gone? I strongly suspect, if they're anything like me, the thought of their "God" being Raikkonen - an ex McLaren driver, and a misery to boot - will be too much to bear, though they'll no doubt be willing him on to form the latter part of a Ferrari 1-2. So, the mantle falls to Felipe to perform this weekend - a task I think he'll be well up for.
Last year Monza was won by Michael Schumacher on a track that is acknowledged as being difficult to pass on, though one that most drivers seem to like. Raikkonen, however, was the man on pole. Can he reproduce that this time around? Obviously, being a Ferrari circuit, his car is suited to the track, so I see no reason why not.
Certainly Alonso will be hoping for no repeat of last year, where he was demoted on the grid for holding up Massa during qualifying, and I expect him to be the main contender to the Ferraris. Lewis will do a steady job, as usual, but I think he's had more than enough of the media intrusion and is happy to take a more relaxed role, though I don't doubt the desire to win is still there.
Watch out for Robert Kubica - he took his maiden podium here in only his third race. He could be the one to upset the apple cart. With any luck. I'm getting sick of writing about Ferrari and McLaren, but with a distinct lack of anything else to report it's going to take something exciting to change the situation. Yes, I did just mention excitement in the context of F1. Don't expect it to happen again...

Something's going to happen in this race. Either the McLarens will hit each other, or maybe the Ferraris.
The championship is very close and its all very tense, and Monza is something of a cauldron anyway.
I'm going for a Hamilton win, with none of Alonso, Raikkonen and Massa finishing.

I'm going for a Hamilton win, with none of Alonso, Raikkonen and Massa finishing. That will do me, along with Mark Webber finishing!!

with Mark Webber finishing!! You're hoping! Qualifying session today starts at 1pm on ITV4 as there's some game going on involving a load of butch guys lobbing about an egg. Don't know what that's all about.

I hear Raikkonen had a 150 mph smash in practise this morning . Is he fit enough for qualifying ?

Don't know yet mate. They're still blathering on about this Ferrari/McLaren thing. But he got out of the car unaided and he didn't hit the wall head on. Should be fine, I hope. Edit: he's fine. Using the T car.

Qualifying results: 1..F Alonso 2..L Hamilton 3..F Massa 4..N Heidfeld 5..K Raikkonen 6..R Kubica 7..H Kovalainen 8..N Rosberg Well that wasn't in the script. Raikkonen's qualifying was always going to be compromised when he has to use the spare car after his crash during third practise, but Massa has no excuse.

Shumi i think you should extend the qualifying results to 10th, to show that Jenson actually got to the 3rd stage of qualifying Oh and Alonso to stall at the start.

Schumi i think you should extend the qualifying results to 10th, to show that Jenson actually got to the 3rd stage of qualifying Okay, just for you the Brits came: 10..J Button 14..A Davidson 20..D Coulthard Button made a mistake in using all his soft tyres in the first two sessions, not expecting to make it to the final shootout. Had it not been for that he could have been one or two places higher. And no chance of Alonso stalling at the start. But he is lighter on fuel than the Ferraris so they'll be working on strategy down in the pits, no doubt.

His career is literally going backwards. It's really sad actually. I've not been a huge fan of DC since the Spa incident, but he is a character who isn't afraid to say it as he sees it. It'll be a sorry day for F1 when he retires.

It'll be a sorry day for F1 when he retires. It's not that sad, he was only ever a make weight who had just enough talent to take advantage of a decent car when he had one; as he's proved at RBR, he can't make a car that's knocking on the door of being good better, he never had the winning streak, just like Button doesn't. DC was never a winner, but he has now developed a character, probably because he doesn't take himself so seriously anymore.
