Sorry, not sure if this is relevant or interesting, but the story amused me when I heard about it on the way home this evening. An Ex F1 star banned from driving for a catalogue of speeding & other driving offences. ;D

Kind of a mirror for his racing career, he didn't really care what rules he broke on the track, he seemed to think he was above all that boring 'regulation' nonsense.

It does seem to be a regular thing with racing drivers, but when you consider the speeds they do on the track, doing 30 on the road must seem like snail's pace. I believe Eddie Irvine and Jenson Button have had a few run-ins with the law too, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were a lot more.

There was always something slightly unpleasant about Piquet. Didn't he call Mansell's wife fat and ugly - a bit unneccessary. And threw his toys out of the pram when Williams allowed Mansell to race him, instead of everyone bowing and kowtowing to the great god Piquet. His 1987 championship win was one of the luckiest of all-time - Mansell pissed all over him that season, only to be hit by freak occurences such as lose wheel nuts, etc. All the best Rob

As far as I remember, Piquet liked to think of himself as something of a practical joker and all round funny guy, but most of the others thought he was a berk.
Mansell didn't have a good word to say about him, and the word on the street was that Piquet was one of the toughest and most demanding when it came contract negotiations, with riders that made pop stars look like pussy cats.
He was also petulant and arrogant, and he certainly seemed to have a far higher opinion of his talents than nearly anyone else.
He also was involved in one of the funnier post prang incidents when he decided to kangaroo box another driver (Eliseo Salazar I believe) for allegedly putting him off, in the process making himself look like a total idiot.
As you can probably tell, I was never his biggest fan!

Donsking, I remember that one - classic! This is a boring thread though, as everyone agrees that Piquet was an egomanical berk - is anyone going to disagree?? All the best Rob

OK....I will... Piquet was definitely my first favourite in F1.....but I was probably too young to pay any attention to his ego issues!
