But, young donsking, Nielsen (a rider I admire greatly) could manage some remarkable things on a speedway bike. How many other riders have managed to do the following (second start): www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRp5E5i7I_MSub, That's the exception that proves the rule... not Hans's finest hour BTW, why have you mentioned Donsking, he hasn't been involved in this discussion since around 3.00am this morning. Hans Nielsen made only a few blunders in his entire career... you seem to make a few on here (such as not being able to tell the reply from the modify button) every day ;D ;D All the best Rob

All the best Rob Probably because I just assumed that donsking's was the last reply to you - turned out it was macattack. Not my finest hour. As for your other comment, which I haven't quoted, well, no one's claiming I'm the best forum administrator ever. I guess young Havelock might say I've too many "cartoons going on in my head" to ever be that good, if he was asked, which I doubt he will be.

Are we still discussing Kenny Carter? Well, he did have his say in the "you tube" clip I posted, so yes, we are still discussing Kenny Carter, although obviously we've meandered a bit.

As the thread seems to have gone off topic a bit (no bad thing really..) can I just have a couple of words here on some of the points raised.
We met Jerzy Szczakiel at the WSRA dinner about four years ago and we found him a most modest and charming man, (in fact at one stage I thought he was getting over friendly with t'wife... ;D)
We had organised a talk including Fundin, Moore, Briggs, Collins, Plechanov etc and as Jerzy was here at the time at the guest of the SCB through the Polish federation - obviously I tried to include him but the powers that be would not allow it. Anyway, Ivan Mauger who was originally intend to come apologised as he was held up in NZ and could not make it told me that he would loved to have hooked up once again with Jerzy and Igor. He intimated that Jerzy was not a one race fluke and totally respected him and his achievements as a fellow competitor and never underrated or under estimated him.
Also Rob how many Gold medals has Erik Gundersen got when you take all the speedway or speedway related disciplines into account? Plus in one year he was the only rider ever to be champion of all four. World Individual, World Team, World Team best pairs and World long track.

Didn't Mauger turn Nielsen from a World final bottler into finally a winner, also, where was Nielsen in the World Finals of 1981, and 1982 compared to Carter, Nielsen was supremely consistent throughout his time in Speedway, but with Penhall, Lee, Carter, Sanders, and Sigalos all genuine World Champion contenders, lost to the sport in a few seasons for various reasons, this paved the way for Erik and Hans to dominate the mid to late 80,s

The youtube clip was a perfect one for this thread. Why did Kenny Carter feel the need to go and start whining to the referee AFTER the rider he was complaining about had been excluded? I think it says a lot about his mental state during the major meetings. As for Hans....quite laughable, but he and Erik learned a LOT before the 1984 WTC Final in Leszno. That meeting is the ultimate demonstration of why the tape touching rule was brought in. If any of you have seen it, you'll know what I'm talking about! I might even dig the old video out the closet and try and get some onto youtube to demonstrate just how bad the Danes were that day

Jim, Erik won 17 FIM Gold Medals, placing him second only to Hans. He didn't actually win 4 in one season, however for a while in 1985, he was the holder of all 4 titles. I liked Erik from the 1981 World Final at Wembley onwards, although the Hans/Erik rivalry did get in the way at times. The thread seems to have movey away from the deluded Carter to some geniunely brilliant Speedway riders...messers Nielsen and Gundersen. All the best Rob

All the best Rob Rob, I may not know much about this era, but I do know that Carter wasn't deluded, he could've been 'that good'; what he lacked was focus in the right areas, and that's a World away from being deluded.

All the best Rob Rob, Its very late but I have to say one thing more only which has troubled me reading your posts on here and on other forums continually. I have met you once and your are such a nice bloke. Can you tell me why everyone has to be so wrong all the time about anything for you to be so right about everything. PS. There is no such word as 'movey' and you did spell 'genuinely' wrong. No one is perfect Rob. Least of me mate but as there is a spell checker built in this forum so it must be for another reason like laziness or arrogance that you cannot roll your posts through it when telling others why you are so right and everyone else is wrong. All the best, Jim

All the best, Jim Jim, Blimey, I hadn't noticed there was a spell-checker, that should help me out with some of my comedy typos. Jim, to be honest, I do tend to post in a hurry - there are occasions, such as tonight, when I don't have an awful lot of time. I've wrote a report for the Oxford website, then rewrote and changed it for the Speedway Star. And then I've got to get up at 6.00am for work, while trying to fit in the Oxford CL news piece during my lunch-hour tomorrow. Mondays are always a pig. I know I make a lot of mistakes in my forum posts (typos I hasten to add, most of my stats are spot on!!). But at the same time I love a good argument, so I'm glad that KevH has now found this forum All the best Rob
