Allegedly some pratt in a white jacket called Lynn fans inbreds on the mic on Saturday. This allegedly followed a couple of "Lynn fans", I'm using the term loosely, making abusive gestures and comments. Question : when does the banter stop and the insults begin? Personally I don't give a stuff, I've trained myself to filter centre green pratts voices out before they reach my eardrums and do so most of the time

Why do people have to be so nasty to each other for no reason? Why can't we all just get along without the insults, unless we really have reason to be annoyed? To answer your question I'd say the banter stops when the person it's aimed at takes offence.

That would be censorship surely.

I know it's difficult sometimes , but it's best to ignore these types of provacation . I know from experience how difficult this can be , you want to hear what Shane Parker gets at Edinburgh . Although for a centre green announcer to come out with that kind of stuff is ridiculous and really he should be removed from that post immediately .

I suppose it depends on the situation; I have heard people from places like East Anglia and Thanet having a joke among themselves about their apparently 'inbred' nature (my favourite was chatting to a bloke from Ramsgate; "you know they reckon inbreeding causes webbed hands?" he said, "well, down here, it's so bad I've seen people with webbed faces!" ;D) but I would've thought twice about saying that kind of thing on a PA system.
It also depends on the origin of the announcer, in the same way that black people call themselves niggers (sorry, niggaz) but if a white guy says it he's likely to find himself the subject of a drive-by shooting.
I'm ultra sensitive about this kind of thing because of my job, but I wouldn't have said it, unless I could make it 110% clear that it was meant as a joke and in no way derogatory, but I'm struggling to see how you wouldn't offend at least one person in a crowd of a few hundred; plus, I believe there's a regulation regarding announcers and comments that could be considered overly inciteful, and I would imagine that kind of comment could be construed as contravening that.

That would be censorship surely. In what way, Nevs? To me it’s just a personal preference and I don’t see what’s wrong with that. I’ve already said I’m not keen on excessive use of swearing, but I don’t change it if I see it – in fact I’ve even put words in on one occasion. Censorship would be if I didn't allow it. Have you seen the amount of niggles people have on here? And have I changed any of it? No. Besides, we weren't talking about forums, just insults in general. I'd rather see a rational discussion, but if people can't/don't want to do that then it's up to them.

To a certain extent, you have to expect that you are going to get inappropriate, offensive comments being made by fans does'nt matter what sport you follow. But for the individual concerned, as a representative of the club(paid or otherwise) to come out with that type of comment, is unproffessional and to me personally shocking.

I won't beat around the bush here, I do not like Kevin Long, I never have and never will. But, what gets me here is that OK, if a couple of KL fans were being abusive and getting a bit gobby then deal with it, but DO NOT retort back over the microphone so the whole stadium can hear you. This is where imo Mr Long made his mistake. And as this was so, he at least owes an apology to the rest of the King's Lynn fans that were minding their business and leaving the stadium after watching an entertaining afternoon of speedway.

I've had no dealings with Mr Long and wouldn't know him from Adam , but a certain amount of responsibility goes with addressing a stadium through a mic . Calling a section of the crowd inbreds is not acting in a responsible manner . What would have happened if a few of these supporters had taken exception to such an extent that they climbed the safety fence and ran across the centre-green to confront Mr Long . That would have been an unfortunate outcome , but one that could've easily happened .
