From the SGB website: ::: ROWE TO JOIN KINGS
TUESDAY JANUARY 17, 2017
KENT have announced the signing of youngster Anders Rowe to fill a reserve berth at Central Park this season.
The 14-year-old will have to wait for his Kings debut as he does not turn 15 until May 9 – but club chief Len Silver believes he is well-placed to continue his progression in the sport, having been mascot at no fewer than five tracks.
Silver said: “Anders has been the most patient lad I have ever met, doing lap after lap in all conditions, starting down at his then home town track Weymouth as an eight year old on a 150cc machine built by his father Delwyn, who is a well known speedway mechanic.
“I have watched him progress through the years onto bigger and bigger bikes and now, after such a long wait, he can finally achieve his dream of being a speedway rider.
“I have no doubt that Anders will prove to be an ace signing for the Kings and can't wait for May 9 when he can finally get down to competitive action as part of our NL side.”Attachments:

From the SGB website: ::::: KENT have completed the signing of Ben Hopwood to finalise their team plans for the National League campaign.
Hopwood arrives at Central Park on a 5.83 average after a 2016 season punctuated by changes of club, having represented Eastbourne, Buxton and Stoke.
Kings boss Chris Hunt said: “With such a low average, it was a no-brainer to me to snap up Ben, and there were any number of other clubs who wanted to sign him up for the same reason.
“Such figures are two points at least behind what one can expect immediately from such a tried and tested and reliable performer. I am delighted to welcome him to Kent.”

From the Kent Kings website: :::::::: The final piece of the Kent Speedway 2017 jig-saw was dropped into place this week, as agreement was reached for Manchester-based Ben Hopwood to become a Kent SLYDE Kings rider for the forthcoming National League campaign.
It is widely acknowledged across the sport that the experienced Hopwood’s final average of 2016 was in fact well below what he is capable of. Having had a season of being moved around starting with Eastbourne (where he’d tasted silverware success in 2015) and finally ending at Stoke, it was not surprising that the 25-year-old’s scoring suffered at times.
The twice runner-up in the GB Youth Championship appeared for the Kings as a guest on two occasions last year and performed very well both times. It was at these times that the rider made it clear to Team Manager, Chris Hunt that a link with the SLYDE-backed Kings would be his number one choice and he has followed that up with a strict winter fitness regime plus a big investment in machinery to declare, "I am determined to make 2017 my best year ever. I want to have a happy healthy season first of all and push my average back up where it should be - my ambition in that regard is to be scoring so well that I’ll be there challenging Luke (Bowen) for the number one race jacket. I'm really looking forward to joining the Kings - it's a move that I’ve felt could’ve been on the cards for a few seasons but never happened due to the numbers game”.
Those same numbers now play to the Salford-born rider and to his new club’s advantage as the Central Park Stadium team boss, Chris Hunt comments, "With such a low average (5.83), it was a no-brainer to me to snap up Ben. And there were any number of other clubs who wanted to sign Ben for the same reason. Such figures are two points at least behind what one can expect immediately from such a tried and tested and reliable performer. I am delighted to welcome him to Kent".
Hopwood is raring to go for a campaign which begins on Good Friday evening with the visit of one of the rider’s former clubs Mildenhall, “I am over the moon to be with such a professional club and will respond to the pressure being placed on me to produce big scores".

The Herne Bay teenager Rhys Laker is seeking to pursue a career in Speedway racing is to return for a third season as the ‘mascot’ for his home county club, the Kent SLYDE Kings in 2017. Schoolboy Rhys who turns 16 years of age next month, moved onto a full sized 500cc motorbike last season and is looking now to really step up his progress towards his ultimate ambitions in the sport. He explains, “I’m really grateful to Len Silver (co-promoter) and the rest of the management at Central Park for allowing me to perform the role of official mascot the past two seasons and for agreeing that I can return in this role for one final year in 2017. “I was so proud to be part of the successful overall team that appeared at Central Park in 2016. I learnt so much last year with help and advice from the team especially the captain Luke Bowen, from the experienced Luke Clifton and from a rider just a little older than me, Jack Thomas! So you can imagine how pleased I was to see that these three riders are back at Central Park next season!” Young Rhys first got the bug watching his heroes riding at the Sittingbourne-based National League track and has reaped the benefits of the advice and support he’s been given, “ It was Luke Clifton who suggested I move up engine size and went firstly to a 250cc Jawa and then up to the full senior level, 500cc Jawa. My dad Gary who does my bikes for me and former rider and Ride’n’Slide Speedway training school owner, Russell Paine said that my improvement and speed since moving to the 500 has been more than progressive and I felt much more comfortable turning the bike into the corners with more power which was fantastic!” As a local boy Rhys enjoys enormous popularity among the enthusiastic Central Park faithful, “A lot of the fans have been in touch over the winter expressing support for me to be back as mascot as well as encouraging me to make further steps forward in my career. Some have even offered to sponsor me if I can stay part of the set up – so I’m delighted it’s been confirmed now for 2017 . My dad and I are building two bikes from scratch and I'm looking to get on them as soon as possible now - especially concerning on starting techniques.” And Laker will be hoping he’ll get a chance to put a toe in the water of competitive Speedway should plans for a new Southern Development League [SDL] get approved, “I hope the new SDL if it happens will mean they’ll be racing opportunities at other tracks in the south of England for me. If I can get that sort of experience this year I’ll be getting closer to my overall ambition for pushing for a National League berth by 2018”. Share This: Facebook Twitter Attachments:

Kent Speedway co-promoter, Len Silver - even while still spending hours on the ski slopes of France during his traditional winter sojourn in the Alps - is busy planning for the upcoming campaign with a Big Publicity push to get awareness of the motor cycle sport which takes place in Central Park Stadium in Sittingbourne known about county-wide.
40,000 advertising leaflets, plus huge banners and placards for display in Sittingbourne town centre and the big Kent SLYDE Kings trailer that will visit all the big Kentish towns, added to which is a brand new initiative to attract youngsters who will have their own "Young Kings" club with various activities for those from 5 - 12 years old.
Youngsters already enjoy free admission to every meeting staged at Central Park during the Speedway season which runs from Easter until the end of October - but now this new club for junior supporters will give added interest and fun for the younger fans!
“We have to think about the future generation of fans as well as ensuring that the adults have a great night out. It is planned for the youngsters to decide the name of their club in the coming weeks leading up to our first home meeting of the 2017 campaign on Good Friday" said Silver today.
This Press Release is the official launch of the competition to name the kids supporters club. Youngsters in the age range of the club (5 years to 12 years inclusive) are asked to submit their ideas for the club name – the name really needs to include ‘Kings’ somewhere in the title. Entries to be sent to the email address info@kentkings.co by closing date of Friday 17th. February.
