LAKESIDE boss Kelvin Tatum admitted they were disappointed not to earn any Elite League points after a 52-41 defeat against Swindon at the Abbey. The Vortex Hammers were always set to face an uphill task in their re-arranged clash in Wiltshire, with top two Andreas Jonsson and Kim Nilsson both missing. Despite Edward Kennett putting in a breathtaking performance against his former club, it was not enough to see the Purfleet outfit add to their Elite League tally. Tatum conceded it was a familiar tale as they fell short in their quest to claim at least a consolation point on their travels. Said Tatum: “It’s been the story of our season so far, we just haven’t quite managed to click into gear away from home and it was the same tonight. “There were just too many weak links tonight, and although we finished with a bit of a flourish we have that feeling of frustration again. “Looking at the positives, there was a brilliant performance from Edward (Kennett). He was absolutely outstanding and you can’t ask for much more than that.” Kennett starred throughout with a stunning performance, claiming four race wins including a tactical ride triumph in heat nine. However, guesting No.1 Craig Cook was the only other Lakeside rider to record a race win when he took the chequered flag in heat 13. Lewis Bridger, Lewis Kerr and Robert Mear battled hard throughout to put in creditable displays, but with Richard Lawson enduring a night to forget they were left short of firepower. The Vortex Hammers will now look to bounce back from their disappointment and return to winning ways when they host Poole in a mouth-watering clash at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday, July 1. SWINDON 52: Charles Wright 10+1, Josh Grajczonek 10+1, Jason Doyle 9+1, Nick Morris 8+1, Justin Sedgmen 7+1, Rohan Tungate 4+1, Stefan Nielsen 4. LAKESIDE 41: Edward Kennett 18, Craig Cook 10, Lewis Bridger 5+2, Lewis Kerr 4+2, Robert Mear 4, Richard Lawson 0, Kim Nilsson r/r. Elite League points: Swindon 3 Lakeside 0

LAKESIDE reserve Lewis Kerr is aiming to hit top form over the second half of the season – starting against Poole at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday (8pm). The Vortex Hammers will look to extend their winning home record to eight successive meetings when they host the highly-rated Pirates. Kerr, 26, is looking to help them enjoy a winning return to Purfleet, exactly a month after defeating table-toppers Wolverhampton in their last home meeting. The all-action racer has enjoyed a solid start to his Lakeside career after making the winter switch from King’s Lynn. Having got to grips with his new home circuit, he is now looking to kick-on and end the campaign in style. Said Kerr: “I’ve had some up and down meetings, as was probably expected after my injury, but I’m hoping to finish a lot stronger. “I really want to smash the rest of the season and end the year on a high. That’s the plan, so we’ll see how things go. “Lakeside is a really good club for me, I seem to have the track dialled in now as well so I’m enjoying that. “We’ve got a good team here with a great group of lads, and the management seem good as well so things are working out well. “The main thing at the moment is just to make sure we reach that top four, and if we keep winning at home and pick up the odd point away we should make it. “We’re in a great position at this stage of the season, we just need to work hard to stay there and make sure we are in those play-offs.”

LAKESIDE will go in search of three more important Elite League points as they host Poole at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday (8pm). The Vortex Hammers roared to a memorable 50-40 win over the Pirates at Purfleet back in April to establish themselves amongst the early-season frontrunners. They have since extended their dominant home run to seven successive meetings – and they will now look to reel off another vital victory against the Wimborne Road outfit. Despite a month-long break from home action, team coach Kelvin Tatum is confident his side can pick up where they left off to come out on top. “We’ve focused on winning at home so far this season, and we are obviously determined to keep that going on Friday,” said Tatum. “The way we’ve been riding at home this season we definitely don’t fear anybody and we’ll be going into the meeting full of confidence. “They’re going to be missing some riders, but we can’t take anything for granted and we’ll have to just focus on ourselves. “We’ve had to wait a long time for our next home meeting, but I’m confident we can put in another good performance.” The home side will be at full strength, with Grand Prix star Andreas Jonsson and Kim Nilsson returning to lead the side after missing the trip to Swindon last week. However, Poole arrive with a patched-up side due to a combination of injuries and fixture clashes. They are led by 2012 World Champion Chris Holder and also feature Lakeside asset Adam Ellis from their regular side. They will hand an Elite League debut to Kiwi hotshot Bradley Wilson-Dean as a guest at reserve, whilst Aaron Summers, Ricky Wells and Paul Starke also feature. LAKESIDE: Andreas Jonsson, Edward Kennett, Richard Lawson, Lewis Bridger, Kim Nilsson, Lewis Kerr, Robert Mear. POOLE: Chris Holder, Adam Ellis, Aaron Summers, Ricky Wells, Hans Andersen R/R, Bradley Wilson-Dean, Paul Starke.

LAKESIDE chief Jon Cook has vowed to do everything possible to get the club’s play-off bid back on track. The Vortex Hammers went down to a shock 48-42 home defeat at the hands of a patched-up Poole side who only had two of their starting seven riders available. It was a savage blow which casts a shadow over their challenge for a top four spot and they need to bounce back with home wins over Wolverhampton (July 15) and Swindon (July 22) later this month. Said Cook: “I will be talking to the riders and key members of staff at the club on a private basis in the days ahead. “We have to move forward and do whatever it takes to get the club back on the road to the play-offs. “Apart from that, as for the result and performance against Poole, I addressed the issue with supporters on the night and there is nothing more to add where that is concerned.” The Vortex Hammers were undone by a Paul Starke masterclass with 16+1 and 2012 world champion Chris Holder continued his fine run with 15. Andreas Jonsson notched 11 for the home side who were without Edward Kennett.
SCORERS: LAKESIDE 42: Andreas Jonsson 11, Kim Nilsson 7+3, Richard Lawson 7+1, Lewis Kerr 7+1, Lewis Bridger 5+1, Robert Mear 3+2, Ben Morley 2, Edward Kennett R/R. POOLE 48: Paul Starke 16+1, Chris Holder 15, Adam Ellis 9+1, Ricky Wells 7, Bradley Wilson-Dean 1, Aaron Summers 0, Hans Andersen R/R.

LAKESIDE coach Kelvin Tatum has called on his side to issue a strong response when they take on Poole at Wimborne Road on Wednesday (7.30). The Vortex Hammers slumped to a shock home defeat against the Pirates at the Arena-Essex Raceway last time out – but Tatum is keen to see them bounce back. He knows they will face a stern test against a powerhouse Poole side who have been in fine form on home shale. However, he hopes they will put their recent Purfleet disappointment behind them to add to their Elite League points tally. Tatum said: “We were obviously bitterly disappointed with the result at home last week, and although Poole will be very strong and red-hot favourites I’d like to think we’ll see a reaction. “For the majority of the meeting we competed quite well on our first visit to Wimborne Road, so we’ll go there with clear minds and if we could come away with something that would be fantastic.” Poole are led by 2012 World Champion Chris Holder and former Grand Prix star Hans Andersen, whilst experienced Danish ace Bjarne Pedersen lines up at reserve. They have drafted in Charles Wright and Paul Starke to guest for Adam Ellis and Kyle Newman respectively. Meanwhile, the Vortex Hammers will travel to Dorset at full strength. POOLE: Chris Holder, Charles Wright, Krzysztof Buczkowski, Brady Kurtz, Hans Andersen, Bjarne Pedersen, Paul Starke. LAKESIDE: Andreas Jonsson, Lewis Bridger, Richard Lawson, Edward Kennett, Kim Nilsson, Robert Mear, Lewis Kerr.

LAKESIDE skipper Andreas Jonsson will lead Sweden in their bid to retain the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup later this month. Jonsson, who was part of the side who raced to a shock victory in the showpiece event last year, has been named as captain ahead of Event Two at Vastervik on Tuesday, July 26. He is joined by British Grand Prix winner Antonio Lindback, Wolves ace Fredrik Lindgren and former Lakeside man Peter Ljung. They will take on Australia, Germany and the USA as they battle to earn a place in the World Cup Final at Belle Vue’s new National Speedway Stadium on Saturday, July 30.

LAKESIDE will be without Edward Kennett for their trip to Poole tonight (Wednesday, 7.30). The British ace has been ruled out with an ear infection and the Vortex Hammers will operate rider replacement to cover his absence. Co-promoter Jon Cook said: "Edward is still suffering with the ear infection which caused him to miss the Premier League Pairs last week, and it's a shame he'll miss out. "He's on a course of antibiotics and expects to be given the all-clear by his doctor to return for our meeting against Wolverhampton at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday." POOLE: Chris Holder, Charles Wright, Krzysztof Buczkowski, Brady Kurtz, Hans Andersen, Bjarne Pedersen, Paul Starke. LAKESIDE: Andreas Jonsson, Lewis Bridger, Richard Lawson, Edward Kennett R/R, Kim Nilsson, Robert Mear, Lewis Kerr.

LAKESIDE staged a brave fightback but were unable to earn an Elite League point as they went down 52-41 at Poole on Wednesday. The Vortex Hammers found themselves trailing by 14 points after just five heats – and although they launched a late surge it unfortunately proved too little too late. There were certainly encouraging signs from the Purfleet outfit in the closing stages as they looked to recover from their shock home defeat against the Pirates in their last outing. However, coach Kelvin Tatum was once again left frustrated to leave an away meeting empty handed. Said Tatum: “It’s getting a bit tiring, saying the same thing after every away meeting and it’s frustrating to miss out on a point once again. “We were all over the place initially, but credit to the team, they battled hard and actually got us back within touching distance. “Poole always had the upper hand, and although it was a valiant effort under trying circumstances they just had too much strength for us in the end.” Skipper Andreas Jonsson put in a classy display, striking a tactical ride victory in heat six and suffering just one defeat. His night ended with a heavy fall as he clashed with Hans Andersen in heat 15, but although he did not take his place in the rerun it is understood he escaped without serious injury. Richard Lawson also bagged two tremendous race victories and joined forces with Kim Nilsson for an impressive 5-1 in heat 13 to keep their hopes of snatching a consolation point alive. All-action ace Lewis Bridger improved as the night went on to end his evening with a victory, but reserve duo Lewis Kerr and Robert Mear struggled to make an impact against a powerful Poole lower order. Bjarne Pedersen and Paul Starke piled up a mammoth 23 point total at reserve to lead the hosts and ensure they were able to cover for the lack of a No.2 after a facility for Hammers asset Adam Ellis was withdrawn at the last minute. POOLE 52: Paul Starke 13+2, Chris Holder 10+1, Bjarne Pedersen 10+1, Hans Andersen 7, Brady Kurtz 6+3, Krzysztof Buczkowski 6, (Six riders only). LAKESIDE 41: Andreas Jonsson 13+1, Richard Lawson 9+1, Kim Nilsson 7+2, Lewis Bridger 7+1, Robert Mear 5, Lewis Kerr 0, Edward Kennett R/R.

LAKESIDE will look to get their play-off bid back on track as they host Wolverhampton in a mouth-watering clash at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday (8pm). The Vortex Hammers are bidding to get back to winning ways after successive defeats against Poole including a shock loss on home shale a fortnight ago. They will face a tough test against the table-topping Wolves in a meeting team coach Kelvin Tatum has described as “absolutely huge”. However, Tatum is keen to see them repeat their impressive 53-37 win over the Monmore Green outfit back on June 1 to claim three more Elite League points. “Friday’s meeting is absolutely huge – mainly due to our performance last time we were at the Raceway,” said Tatum. “Wolverhampton have been a very solid side right from the start of the season and they don't sit top of the Elite League table for nothing. “They've not been winning as comfortably as they were towards the start of the season and we need to take advantage of the fact that they haven't won on the road for a while. “We put in a very strong showing against them here at the Arena Essex Raceway earlier in the season and it's crucial that we do the same again.” Edward Kennett is expected to return from an ear infection to line-up at No.2 for the hosts, whilst No.1 Andreas Jonsson emerged unscathed from a high-speed crash at Poole on Wednesday. Richard Lawson and Wolves man Sam Masters are both riding in a Premier League Knockout Cup tie between Glasgow and Edinburgh, meaning both sides operate rider replacement to cover their absences. Wolves have also drafted in Rory Schlein as a guest for injured former Hammers rider Joonas Kylmakorpi in the No.5 spot. LAKESIDE: Andreas Jonsson, Edward Kennett, Richard Lawson R/R, Lewis Bridger, Kim Nilsson, Robert Mear, Lewis Kerr. WOLVERHAMPTON: Fredrik Lindgren, Peter Karlsson, Sam Masters R/R, Rory Schlein, Jacob Thorssell, Max Clegg, Kyle Howarth.

LAKESIDE reignited their Elite League play-off ambitions with a much-needed 55-37 win over Wolverhampton at the Arena-Essex Raceway. Swedish star Kim Nilsson struck a faultless, six-ride paid maximum whilst skipper Andreas Jonsson also went unbeaten as the Vortex Hammers claimed a convincing victory. British duo Lewis Bridger and Edward Kennett also roared to double figures to cover the absence of Richard Lawson whilst Lewis Kerr recorded a race win in what was an excellent team display. It was a perfect response from the Purfleet outfit after their shock home defeat against Poole a fortnight ago. Co-promoter Jon Cook was in jubilant mood after comfortably dispatching of the league leaders for the second time this season. Said Cook: “It was a fantastic performance from the team, and a great way to recover from the home defeat “All the plaudits go to Kim Nilsson for a truly immaculate paid maximum, although AJ (Andreas Jonsson), Edward (Kennett) and Lewis Bridger were absolutely superb as well. “We’re just delighted with the team effort and the way the lads showed fantastic spirit to bounce back from that defeat against Poole last time out. “It was just what we needed, and it sets us up nicely for our next home meeting against Swindon next Friday.” LAKESIDE 55: Kim Nilsson 17+1, Andreas Jonsson 11+1, Edward Kennett 10+2, Lewis Bridger 10+2, Lewis Kerr 7+1, Robert Mear 0, Richard Lawson r/r. WOLVERHAMPTON 37: Max Clegg 7+3, Peter Karlsson 7+1, Jacob Thorssell 7, Kyle Howarth 6+2, Fredrik Lindgren 5+1, Rory Schlein 5+1, Sam Masters r/r.

LAKESIDE coach Kelvin Tatum is keen to see his side pick up where they left off as they host Swindon at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday (8pm). The Vortex Hammers got their play-off bid back on track with a stunning home win over top of the table Wolverhampton last week. Tatum admitted it was a much-needed victory for the Purfleet outfit after experiencing a tricky spell. Having given their confidence a timely boost, they will now face another top four rival in a crucial clash - and Tatum is desperate to see them claim three more points. Whilst he knows Swindon are capable of causing problems, he is desperate to replicate their fine Wolves performance to come out on top. Said Tatum: "To pick up a convincing win over the league leaders last week was a big confidence boost for the whole team. "It was so vital to get back to winning ways, especially at home, and it keeps us around those play-off places as the race for the top four hots up. "Friday's meeting against Swindon could have a big bearing on the final standings and we want another three points to add to our tally. "You never know what you're going to get from Alun Rossiter's side this year; they've got plenty of potential and have shown on a number of occasions that they're a good side when they all click on the same night. "Hopefully our riders can have another solid team performance because beating those teams around you could prove to be so important." Lakeside will be at full strength, whilst Swindon arrive with a number of guests to cover Premier League fixture clashes. Josh Grajczonek, Rohan Tungate and Charles Wright are all riding for Somerset whilst Stefan Nielsen remains sidelined with a thumb injury. They have subsequently drafted in Bjarne Pedersen, Stuart Robson and Robert Branford as guests whilst rider replacement will operate in the No.2 spot. Meanwhile, supporters will also be able to enjoy six heats of junior racing at no extra cost, with 250cc and 125cc action starting at 7.30pm, before the main Elite League meeting. LAKESIDE: Andreas Jonsson, Edward Kennett, Richard Lawson, Lewis Bridger, Kim Nilsson, Robert Mear, Lewis Kerr. SWINDON: Jason Doyle, Rohan Tungate R/R, Justin Sedgmen, Nick Morris, Bjarne Pedersen, Stuart Robson, Robert Branford.

LAKESIDE gave their Elite League play-off hopes a major boost with a hard-fought 51-39 win over top four rivals Swindon at the Arena-Essex Raceway. The Vortex Hammers put in another strong home display to claim a potentially vital three points to strengthen their grip on fourth spot. The Purfleet outfit were always in control against a patched-up Robins side – and although the visitors threatened to claim a point they were forced to leave empty handed. Team coach Kelvin Tatum admitted it was not a perfect performance from his side – but he was nonetheless delighted with a “job well done”. Said Tatum: “It was a little bit dicey at one stage when they got within six, and we probably should have been more in control at that point in truth. “Swindon put up a decent fight, but we got the job done and got the three points which was the main thing. “We also stopped them getting anything which could prove very important at the end of the season, so it was a job well done for us in the end.” Star skipper Andreas Jonsson once again led by example with double figures, whilst Edward Kennett played a key role with 11+2 against his former club. Kim Nilsson continued his fine form to bag paid nine whilst Richard Lawson also impressed in a heat-leader position as the home side ran just five last places. Lewis Kerr ended an eventful evening with a win at reserve, whilst Lewis Bridger and Robert Mear also made vital contributions in what was a strong all-around team performance. The Vortex Hammers will return to action after the World Cup break as they travel to Belle Vue on Wednesday, August 3 before hosting the Aces in the return fixture on Friday, August 5 (8pm) LAKESIDE 51: Andreas Jonsson 12+1, Edward Kennett 11+2, Kim Nilsson 7+2, Richard Lawson 7+1, Lewis Kerr 6+1, Lewis Bridger 5+1, Rob Mear 3. SWINDON 39: Jason Doyle 12, Stuart Robson 12, Nick Morris 11+1, Bjarne Pedersen 2, Justin Sedgmen 1, Danny Ayres 1, Rohan Tungate r/r. Elite League points: Lakeside 3 Swindon 0

LAKESIDE skipper Andreas Jonsson claimed his seventh Swedish Championship on a memorable afternoon in Hallstavik. The Vortex Hammers No.1 roared to victory with a classy display - whilst team-mate Kim Nilsson joined him on the rostrum in third place. Jonsson top scored in the qualifying heats with 13 points, whilst three races wins for Nilsson early on saw him join him directly in the final on countback. The decisive race had to be rerun after a crash for former Hammers rider Peter Ljung - but Jonsson held his nerve in the rerun to come out on top. It was a superb performance from the Grand Prix star to warm up for Tuesday's Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup Event Two in Vastervik. It was also a pleasing night for Nilsson to continue his recent good form. The pair will be back in Lakeside colours as they travel to Belle Vue on Wednesday, August 3 (7.30) before hosting the Aces at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Friday, August 5 (8pm).

LAKESIDE kept their play-off hopes alive with a vital 48-45 win over table-topping Belle Vue at the Arena-Essex Raceway. After briefly dropping out of the Elite League top four, the Vortex Hammers offered a perfect response to climb back above Swindon on point’s difference. It was a much-needed victory for the Purfleet outfit – and team coach Kelvin Tatum was delighted to claim a crucial three points. Said Tatum: “It was a good all-around performance because, even without Matej Zagar, Belle Vue were always going to be a tough proposition. “We’re delighted to come away with the victory, and in truth we maybe took our foot off the gas a little bit at the end. “It’s very important for us to make sure we keep winning, and we could easily have slipped up tonight. “We got over Wednesday’s disappointment quickly, and although Belle Vue will be pleased to get a point, from our perspective it was just about getting the three league points. “We’ve had a tough test but we came through and got the result we needed, so I’m very proud of the team.” The home side led for the majority of the meeting but were forced to withstand a late Aces fightback after Craig Cook won a tactical ride in heat 12. They nonetheless held their nerve to come out on top, with star skipper Andreas Jonsson winning heat 13 to seal victory before the visitors snatched a consolation point with back to back 5-1s in the final two races. Jonsson starred on his return from illness which caused him to miss Wednesday’s defeat at the National Speedway Stadium. But it was a strong all-around team performance from the Hammers in the absence of Edward Kennett. Heat-leaders Richard Lawson and Kim Nilsson both put in strong showings and delivered a timely 5-1 in heat 10. Lewis Bridger also recorded two race wins whilst reserve duo Lewis Kerr and Robert Mear made solid contributions as the home side ran just five last places. After giving their top four ambitions a major boost, the Hammers will be back in action at Coventry on Friday, August 19 before hosting the Bees at the Arena-Essex Raceway on Saturday, August 20. LAKESIDE 48: Andreas Jonsson 12, Lewis Bridger 11, Richard Lawson 8+2, Kim Nilsson 7+1, Lewis Kerr 5+2, Robert Mear 5+1, Edward Kennett r/r. BELLE VUE 45: Scott Nicholls 13+1, Craig Cook 12+1, Richie Worrall 8+1, Nick Morris 6+1, Steve Worrall 6, Joe Jacobs 0, Matej Zagar r/r.
