KENNETT TARGETS GOLD IN PLRC BMR Rockets No.1 Edward Kennett has been confirmed as the Rye House representative in next month’s Premier League Riders’ Championship, which is being staged at Sheffield on Sunday, September 11th. The Rye House captain will be aiming to become the third Rockets rider, after Tai Woffinden (2008) and Olly Allen (2013), to lift the crown. He was cruelly denied the opportunity last year to achieve that target when comfortably qualifying for the semi-final race-off but then dropping a chain when under starter’s orders for the decider. Kennett, who tops the weekly Premier League national averages and is a former World Cup Lion, will be doing battle with three of Great Britain’s Speedway World Cup silver medallists at the event.
Craig Cook, Danny King and Robert Lambert will also be at Owlerton fighting to win the prestigious trophy just weeks after helping Team GB to their best World Cup performance in over a decade.
With Australian team members Sam Masters and Josh Grajczonek also in action, there will be five World Cup finalists vying for success at Owlerton.
Sheffield co-promoter Damien Bates is delighted to once again be hosting the showpiece meeting, which is one of the most popular on the domestic calendar.
Said Bates: “Sheffield has become the home of the PLRC, and we’ve been fortunate to carry that on after taking over the club a few years ago.
“When you look at the line-up, every rider is top class and they all go well around Sheffield as well.
“I don’t think there is much home advantage for our boys given the standard of riders and the way they’ve performed around Owlerton in the past.
“We’ve seen some brilliant action in the PLRC in recent years, and looking at this year’s line-up I’m sure it’ll be no different.”
Each of the 13 Premier League clubs will be represented by their top available rider based on current declarations.
Sheffield, Glasgow and Newcastle will all have two representatives after Jason Garrity, Richard Lawson and Steve Worrall qualified as the next three highest-averaged riders.
Hometown hero Simon Stead will be back to try to regain the trophy he won in dramatic fashion in 2014 having missed out on the chance to defend his title due to injury last year.
But reigning Champion Ulrich Ostergaard misses out on qualification, with Cook the sole representative for Peterborough.
PREMIER LEAGUE RIDERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP LINE-UP: Craig Cook (Peterborough), Edward Kennett (Rye House), Josh Grajczonek (Somerset), Simon Stead (Sheffield), Danny King (Ipswich), Sam Masters (Edinburgh), Aaron Summers (Glasgow), Robert Lambert (Newcastle), Ricky Wells (Workington), Josh Auty (Scunthorpe), Kevin Doolan (Berwick), David Bellego (Redcar), Jack Holder (Plymouth), Richard Lawson (Glasgow), Jason Garrity (Sheffield), Steve Worrall (Newcastle).

PREVIEW: BMR ROCKETS VS GLASGOW The BMR Rockets return to home shale after a fortnight’s absence when they entertain Glasgow in Premier League action this Saturday (7pm start). The Tigers are currently second in the League table, but although posting a faultless home record have been somewhat hit and miss on their travels – they have won at Ipswich and Redcar yet also suffered reverses at both Redcar and Scunthorpe, who currently occupy the bottom two rungs in the standings. Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck is confident that the Rockets can capitalise on those inconsistencies. “All the boys are highly positive about this one. Glasgow may be second in the table but there is no reason why we can’t box with the big boys, especially around our place. “Eddie (Kennett) had a difficult meeting at Newcastle, but you know that he is going to bounce back in a big way. He’s No.1 in the weekly national averages for a reason, you know. Leigh (Lanham) is growing in confidence again, and Cam (Heeps) can just pop out and win races. “The rest of the boys can come up with the goods too, and after last weekend on the road all of them are determined to step up another gear or two around our patch. “We came so close to beating Somerset last time we were at home, and we’ve got the opportunity to make up for that near miss on Saturday. We aim to take it.” BMR Rockets: Rob Branford (guest), Cameron Heeps, Edward Kennett (captain), Leigh Lanham, Kasper Lykke, Ben Morley, Stuart Robson Glasgow; Rene Bach, Dan Bewley (guest), Fernando Garcia, Richard Lawson, Nike Lunna, Aaron Summers (captain), Richie Worrall

BRANFORD IN FOR KARGER The BMR Rockets have moved quickly to name Rob Branford in their formal one-to-seven following the resignation of Peter Karger. Dane Karger suffered a broken wrist in the Rockets’ match against Edinburgh on May 22nd, and further complications with the injury led to him aborting a comeback after just two fixtures over a month ago. Rye House Co-Promoter Steve Jenson now updates the situation: “Peter has just had a fresh cast set that would unfortunately rule him out until into September, and therefore believes that it is the right time to call a halt on his time with the club. “I must add that his resignation was also with the Team in mind, and the hopes that we still have for success this season. That pretty much highlights his character. You couldn’t ask to meet a nicer guy; always positive, bubbly and smiling. “One of the stand-out highlights of our season so far was his victory over former Premier League Riders’ Champion Sam Masters. The reaction afterwards from the crowd, his team and himself was really magical. We’ll all remember that moment for a long, long time. “It was just unfortunate that he sustained his injury only a few races later, but we thank him for all his efforts and wish him well in his recovery and return to the sport.” BMR Raiders No.1 Rob Branford has been filling Karger’s injury void with a string of guest appearances for the Rockets - most recently blasting paid 10 at Edinburgh and 11 at Newcastle during last weekend’s northern tour - but now has the opportunity to make his team place an official and permanent one, following the BSPA’s ratification of the Rockets’ re-declaration. Branford will technically still be in a guest role when the Rockets host Glasgow at Hoddesdon tomorrow evening (see separate match preview), as the men in Black, Chrome and Fire aim to pull the high flying Tigers down a rung or two. The action gets underway at 7pm.

ROCKETS AND TIGERS PROVIDE ROAR POWER The BMR Rockets combined with visitors Glasgow to serve up a night of racing drama; albeit one which ultimately left the Rockets tantalisingly close once again to unseating a powerhouse side at Rye House. A fortnight ago, the Rockets were edged out by just two points against current league leaders Somerset; here it was a case of a 44-46 defeat against the side tucked in behind the Rebels at the top of the table. It was the home team that got off to the best possible start, as Edward Kennett romped home in Heat 1, with visiting captain Aaron Summers getting no further than the opening yards due to bike problems. The Rockets’ advantage could potentially have doubled as Ben Morley and Rob Branford led Heat 2, only for the race to be stopped when Nike Lunna crashed when engaged in a fierce battle with Branford for second spot. Visiting reserve guest Dan Bewley had disadvantaged himself with movement at the gate and was at the rear of the field, but made no mistake by leading home the pack in the re-run – a portent of things to come. The Rockets extended their lead to 18-12 when Kasper Lykke and Cameron Heeps finished either side of Fernando Garcia in Heat 5, with Summers once again spluttering to a halt out of the gate, but Glasgow fought back with a 5-1 in the next heat as Edward Kennett fell while chasing Richard Lawson and Nike Lunna. Rye quickly re-built their safety margin in Heat 7, as Branford produced a fantastic first bend surge around the outside to pass Garcia and Richie Worrall and join Stuart Robson at the front in Heat 8, before Lanham saw off Bewley and Lunna to win Heat 8 and take the score to 24-18. Within two races, however, the score was level, a Tigers’ 5-1 in Heat 9 swiftly being followed by a 4-2 in which the fast starting Bewley kept Kennett at bay for the duration. It was a clear demonstration of why the 17 year old Cumbrian is turning heads in this, his first season of competitive action, as an exciting Young Lion of the here and now, let alone the future. The next two races were shared, but with Glasgow posting the heat victories courtesy of Summers and Worrall, who had earlier managed just a single point between them, the tide was turning in their favour. Then came Heat 13. It was a race won by Kennett from Lawson – but all the real drama came in the battle for third place. Robson held that position until the closing yards when Summers was judged to have snatched the point by the very narrowest of margins right on the line. It was a result that was to prove crucial, because although Lykke came from the back to take second spot from Worrall in Heat 14, Lunna’s victory gave Glasgow the lead for the first time, at 43-41, and Robson and Kennett were unable to find a way past Lawson in the finale. The resulting 3-3 left the Rockets so near, yet so far, to achieving their cause. A disconsolate Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck admitted afterwards that “It is just gutting to lose by this margin. It couldn’t have been any closer. I really thought that we were in with a shout today, but that’s Speedway. It works both ways, and unfortunately we didn’t get the decision with Robbo (Stuart Robson) in Heat 13 – we really thought he had it – but that’s just the way it is. “Like I say so often, it was another brilliant Speedway meeting, and to run the potential champions that close it just shows you what the League is all about - and also that we are doing something right here. “We’ve just got to click all together. But then, when you look at what their reserves scored today (Lunna on paid 14, and guest Bewley on 10) that was really the clincher for them. But nobody let us down; we just kept on going and we got close…. again. “It is so good to see Leigh (Lanham) continuing to come back to form. When I say to him, “Leigh, I need you here”, he always comes up with the goods, and he did tonight. Of another key star for the Rockets, with 7 points: “Rob Branford is just an unbelievable character. He just gives you everything. “I’m really proud of the boys tonight. With Eddie crashing in one of the races when he was battling for second spot, and Robbo missing out right on the line, it just shows you how close you can be sometimes.” BMR Rockets: Edward Kennett 9+1 (5 rides), Stuart Robson 8+2 (5), Kasper Lykke 7+1 (4), Robert Branford (guest) 7 (4), Leigh Lanham 6+1 (4), Cameron Heeps 4+1 (4), Ben Morley 3+1 (4)
Glasgow: Nike Lunna 12+2 (6 rides), Richard Lawson 12+1 (5), Dan Bewley (guest) 9+1 (5), Richie Worrall 5 (5), Aaron Summers 4+1 (5), Fernando Garcia 4 (4), Rene Bach R/R Match Points: Rye House 0 Glasgow 3 FIXTURES UPDATE New dates have now been agreed for the two outstanding home meetings at Rye House. Mildenhall will visit Hoddesdon on Sunday, September 11th in the second part of a Travel Plus Tours National League double header that will earlier see the BMR Raiders face King’s Lynn. The National League action will be preceded by the British 150cc Youth Championship, making it a bumper day’s racing at Rye House. Supporters will have only limited time for a respite, however, because the following evening (Monday, September 12th) will see the BMR Rockets stage their final home regular season Premier League fixture against Sheffield, after the originally planned date was switched from August 27th to avoid congestion alongside Bank Holiday Monday’s double header at the circuit.

Accordingly, the Rockets will now collide with the Tigers on Tuesday, September 13th, with a 7.30 start time. Ahead of Saturday’s match, the BMR Rockets are in Premier League action tomorrow night (Friday) when they venture down to Devon to tackle the Plymouth Devils. The Rockets proved 51-41 victors in their League Cup visit to the St Boniface Arena in April, but will have to contend this time around without both Edward Kennett and Cameron Heeps. No.1 Kennett faces an Elite League commitment, while Heeps will be absent due to his participation as a reserve in the following afternoon’s U-21 World Cup Final in Sweden, in which Australia face the host nation, Poland and Denmark. Ryan Douglas, who won the individual meeting at last month’s Fours Weekend, will guest for Kennett, while the Rockets will operate Rider-Replacement for Heeps. The Devils, meanwhile, have named Ben Barker as a guest for their own absent No.1 Jack Holder (also in Sweden), with Rider-Replacement in place for the Elite League required Stefan Nielsen. Says Schroeck of the fixture, “We’ll be taking a different looking line-up to Plymouth than the one in April, but the aim will be the same. Yes, Eddie (Kennett) had a big score there in the League Cup, but Ryan (Douglas) is really breaking through now in the sport. We’ve got Rob (Branford) in the team now as well, which we didn’t in April, and he will also help to balance out any absences.” BMR Rockets: Ryan Douglas (guest), Cameron Heeps R/R, Kasper Lykke, Leigh Lanham, Stuart Robson. Reserves: Ben Morley, Rob Branford Plymouth: Ben Barker (guest), Stefan Nielsen R/R, Steve Boxall, Todd Kurtz, Kyle Newman. Reserves: Sam Simota, Ellis Perks

ROCKETS EDGED IN RACE WITH THE DEVILS The BMR Rockets came within a whisker of collecting their first Premier League away victory of the season, only for a late Plymouth fightback to see the Devils home 48-45. Despite missing Edward Kennett (scheduled Elite League commitment) and Cameron Heeps (U-21 World Cup Final), the Rockets took early control of the fixture to storm into a 17-7 advantage. Stuart Robson bagged Heat 1 from Plymouth guest Ben Barker as Rye opened with a 4-2, while Rob Branford maintained that advantage by storming home in the next race, and then the Rockets truly unleashed as Leigh Lanham and Kasper Lykke combined for a 5-1 in Heat 3 and Robson and Branford followed suit immediately afterwards. And while former Hoddesdon star Steve Boxall sparked a Devils’ 4-2 with success in Heat 5, another maximum performance from Robson and Morley in Heat 9 took the score up to 33-21. That, unfortunately, is where the tide totally turned. The Tactically nominated Barker and Sam Simota collected an 8-1 over Lykke and Lanham in Heat 10, and further 4-2s cut the Rockets’ advantage to 38-37. Another superb victory from Robson, coupled with Branford’s re-pass of Kyle Newman for third spot, gave Rye a 4-2 from Heat 13, only for Plymouth to take the lead in the penultimate race with a 5-1 from Todd Kurtz and Simota. And although Robson threw the proverbial kitchen sink at Heat 15 - catching both Barker and Newman at one point - the latter re-took his man to claim the chequered flag, and hand Plymouth the 4-2 that gave them a 3 point winning margin. It was the only time that Robson was headed all night. Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck felt extremes of emotion himself afterwards. “I initially felt gutted afterwards, but then I realised that the boys had given everything in what was proper racing, with so many blanket situations. “We were on such an adrenalin high at Heat 9, and then to a certain extent, we were beaten by the rulebook - but we’ve used the Tactical ourselves so we can’t totally complain about it. “It was just a very, VERY good meeting. “I am proud of the boys for all their efforts. Robbo (Stuart Robson) is on fire at the moment and he was absolutely flying. Where he gets some of his moves from is unbelievable. “He was captain tonight, and he really got the boys going and built a great atmosphere. “Branny (Rob Branford) too, he was phenomenal. The boy just gives you every last ounce. “Kasper (Lykke) and Leigh (Lanham) were also brilliant, and Ben (Morley) bounced back from a tapes exclusion and another last to rattle up 6 points. “Even (guest) Ryan Douglas tried everything but it just didn’t work for him. He was also prepared to travel a huge distance to be here, which emphasise his commitment tonight. “Ultimately we’ve taken home a match point despite being without Edward (Kennett) and Cam (Heeps). And with the effort that everyone showed, it’s hard to ask for more.” BMR Rockets: Stuart Robson 16+1, Rob Branford 7+2, Kasper Lykke 7+1, Leigh Lanham 6+1, Ben Morley 6, Ryan Douglas (guest) 3, Cameron Heeps R/R Plymouth: Sam Simota 15+2, Ben Barker (guest) 12+1, Kyle Newman 9, Todd Kurtz 5, Steve Boxall 5, Ellis Perks 2+1, Stefan Nielsen R/R Match Points: Plymouth 3 Rye House 1

SILVER FOR HEEPS BMR Rocket Cameron Heeps had a non-riding role at reserve for Australia as the Aussies finished second in the U-21 World Cup Final at Norrkoping in Sweden on Saturday afternoon. The Roos scored 37, to finish behind Poland (44) but ahead of Denmark (27) and hosts Sweden (17). Although ultimately not receiving an outing, congratulations to Cam for his selection and the Aussies’ achievement.

BANK HOLIDAY BURN-UP! The BMR Rockets and Raiders are gearing themselves up for a hefty Bank Holiday weekend of racing, with no less than four key slices of action to focus on. The centrepiece will be Monday’s double header meeting at Rye House, which will kick in at 3pm with the Rockets’ crunch Knock-Out Cup quarter-final clash against Berwick. The Bandits arrive with a 16 point lead from the first leg, but Team Manager Peter Schroeck is confident that his riders can surmount that deficit in order to progress to the competition’s final four. “It is definitely doable. All the boys are fired up, and it will be a case of starting on the right foot with some good early points in order to build momentum as quickly as possible.” The Bandits may have forced a draw on their League visit to Hoddesdon back at the start of June, but leaned heavily on that occasion on their two guests (Michael Palm Toft and Luke Bowen), who contributed 17 between them and will not be present on Monday. Accordingly, continues Schroeck, “It should play more into our hands this time around. We’ve got the riders to do it. We just need to get stuck in quickly and do what we are more than capable of to come out on top.” Monday’s first fifteen races will be followed by fifteen more as the BMR Raiders take to the track against Buxton in the Travel Plus National League, with Schroeck optimistic that the Raiders can segue seamlessly from last Saturday’s victory against Coventry and the previous weekend’s success in the Fours. “We are quite confident, especially with George (Hunter) back, which will make us more solid at No.4. We’ve been able to keep Sam (Woods) in the side too; he is still on a high from the Fours and he scored a few points (against the Storm) last Saturday. If he can build on that, it will really help to tip the match in our favour.” BMR Rockets: Rob Branford, Cameron Heeps, Edward Kennett (captain), Leigh Lanham, Kasper Lykke, Ben Morley, Stuart Robson Berwick: Liam Carr, Kevin Doolan (captain), Dany Gappmaier, Thomas Jorgensen, Theo Pijper, Dawid Stachyra, Matthew Wethers BMR Raiders: Rob Branford, George Hunter, Connor Locke, Ben Morley, Luke Priest (captain), Matt Saul, Sam Woods Buxton: Tom Bacon (guest), Ryan Blacklock (captain), Ryan Burton, Lee Dicken, Shelby Rutherford, David Speight R/R, David Wallinger. Please note that the club will be staging its annual collection on behalf of the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund during the meeting. Our grateful thanks in advance for all donations, however large or small. Monday’s double header admission pricing is: Adults £20, Seniors (over 60s) £17, Full-Time Students (17-22) £15, Children (aged 12-16) £8, with Children (under 12) admitted FREE.
The double header match programme will be £3.00
Please note that those seeking Student admission must provide a copy of their current student photo ID (issued by the NUS or their university/college) at the turnstiles.
Additionally, Buxton supporters wishing only to watch the second match may do so by entering the stadium after Heat 14 of the Knock-Out Cup match, with normal National League admission then applying:
Adults £12, Full-Time Students (17-22) £8, Children (aged 12-16) £5, with Children (under 12) FREE. Ahead of Bank Holiday Monday’s bonanza, the BMR Raiders will be at Mildenhall on Sunday afternoon (3.30pm). Says Schroeck of the road trip, “West Row will be quite a challenge, but most of the boys go pretty well round there, so I do feel we have got a chance of taking something away from the match.” BMR Raiders: Rob Branford, George Hunter, Macauley Leek, Connor Locke, Ben Morley, Luke Priest (captain), Sam Woods Finally, even before they get to the Fenlands, BMR Raiders linchpins Rob Branford and Ben Morley will be focused on the little matter of the National League Pairs Championship that takes place at King’s Lynn on Saturday night (7pm start), in an event that provides Morley with the chance to retain a title he won as a Kent King last season. Anticipates Schroeck, “It’s an open field, and anything can happen, so it wouldn’t be right to put any unnecessary pressure on Ben and Rob. We want them to go there and enjoy the occasion. All I will say is that they have a great understanding of each other, and I do think that they have a very good chance in the event.” National League Pairs line-up: GROUP A: CRADLEY: Ashley Morris & Max Clegg. EASTBOURNE: Adam Ellis & Jake Knight. ISLE OF WIGHT: Mark Baseby & James Cockle. KING'S LYNN: Tom Stokes & Nathan Greaves. MILDENHALL: Jon Armstrong & Danny Halsey.

ROCKETS BLAST THROUGH TO SEMIS! The BMR Rockets found a way past Berwick in an epic Knock-Out Cup tie that saw them down the Bandits 54-36 on the day – and edge through to the competition’s Semi-Final stage by the narrowest of margins, 91-89. The Rockets had actually trailed by as many as 20 points with one race to go in the first leg at Shielfield Park earlier in the month, only for a Heat 15 5-1from Edward Kennett and Stuart Robson to give them fresh hope for Bank Holiday Monday’s return – and they duly completed the job in dramatic circumstances to clinch a Final Four tie against Newcastle. Kennett – with his seventh maximum of the season – and Robson were once again key players here, but the tie was truly won across the board with all seven Rockets contributing at least one paid race win. It proved an afternoon of gripping racing and tension as Rye whittled down their sixteen point disadvantage against a Bandits side that was equally committed to the cause. Peter Schroeck had challenged his Team to make strong start to the day – and they responded with a 5-1 in the very first race as Kasper Lykke rounded visiting No.1 Kevin Doolan to join Kennett at the front of the pack. Another maximum followed in a Heat 3 memorable for an intense first bend from Cameron Heeps and Leigh Lanham against Matthew Wethers and Theo Pijper. So, 13-5 after three races, with the deficit already halved. The Bandits bounced back with a 5-1 of their own from Doolan and Dawid Stachyra against the same Rye pairing in Heat 5 – but it was to prove to be the Borderers’ only race advantage of the afternoon. Kennett’s second win - with Lykke again coming from the back, this time against Dany Gappmaier to claim third – pushed Rye to 21-15, and another back straight surge from the Dane produced a Heat 8 victory over Liam Carr that was backed by a battling third place from Ben Morley. The 4-2 there made it 28-20. Lykke missed out on second place by just half a wheel when pitched against Wethers in Heat 10, with Kennett’s chequered flag lifting the score to 35-25, before Morley brought the house down by zipping inside both Doolan and Stachyra to partner Robson to the Heat 11 5-1 that moved the Rockets to 40-26 and just 2 behind in the race for the Semis. Rob Branford earned a similar ovation by roaring around Gappmaier and then inside a startled Pijper to capture Heat 12, with Heeps taking advantage of the Dutchman’s slip-up to sneak past for third and earn the 4-2 that brought the teams level on aggregate with just three races to go. The prospect of Golden Heats in the event of an overall tie was looming – but clearly no one had told the Rockets. Kennett bagged Heat 13, with Robson’s run around Jorgensen for third on the second lap handing Rye the advantage for the first time in the tie at 48-30 (75-73). Then, after Lanham and Morley had protected a 3-3 behind Gappmaier in the penultimate race, Kennett made sure that it would be the Rockets who would be progressing with a storming victory from the back against Doolan in the finale that also completed his personal full house. It was an emotional end to an emotional match, as Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck beamed afterwards. “This is absolutely awesome. I always believed that we would do it, but actually DOING it makes it feel sweeter. “We’re absolutely buzzing. It’s a result that extends our season, and it proves what we are all about. We don’t just lie down and give up; we battle all the way through. That’s why I didn’t make any changes during the match; we just had good talks and kept everybody going – and they all came up with the goods. We did it! “Full credit to Berwick; they fought hard and more than provided their fair share of the entertainment. We weren’t going to under-estimate them; they are a strong team. “It’s absolutely marvellous what we have achieved today. In a sense, where we are in the table is almost irrelevant because this league is such a strong one, and we are giving everyone a good close run. “The difference we have this year is that we are a TEAM. Whether people have a bad night or a good one, we are together as a TEAM. We stick together, and that’s what you’ve got to do in team sport. There’s no room for individuals. We talk to each other now 24/7. If there’s a problem, I’m the first one to know about it, and if I can solve it in any way with my experience, being a bit older than them, I do. “That shines through on the track. They’re all happy, and I can’t be any prouder of them than I am today.” BMR Rockets: Edward Kennett 15 (5 rides, max), Stuart Robson 9 (5), Kasper Lykke 7+1 (4), Robert Branford 7+1 (4), Cameron Heeps 7 (4), Leigh Lanham 5+1 (4), Ben Morley 4+3 (4)

ROCKETS FEEL TIGERS’ STEEL Having seen their scheduled Premier League visit to the Steel City thwarted on no less than three previous occasions by the rain, the BMR Rockets found that it was fourth time unlucky as they finally beat the weather but not the Tigers, as they went down 56-37 at Sheffield on Thursday night. The Rockets were always going to be left playing catch-up after suffering three 5-1s in as many races from the start of the match, although wins from guest David Bellego, Stuart Robson and Rob Branford helped to steady the ship, the latter when the Adelaide born rider was partnered with Kasper Lykke for a 5-1 in Heat 8. Bellego finished the match with 9 points thanks to his double points success on a Tactical ride in Heat 5, with Robson paid for double figures on 8+2 and Branford claiming 8. As Rye House Team Manager Peter Schroeck accepted afterwards, “Sheffield is a tough place to come to when you don’t ride it every week. The Tigers shook us a bit with those early 5-1s, and in fairness we were always on the back foot after that. “We also had a couple of exclusions and bits of bad luck, such as when David Bellego’s bike packed up as the tapes went up (in Heat 11), which didn’t help.” BMR Rockets: David Bellego (guest) 9, Stuart Robson 8+2, Rob Branford 8, Cameron Heeps 4+2, Kasper Lykke 4+1, Leigh Lanham 4, Ben Morley 0 Sheffield: Dimitri Berge 12+1, Jason Garrity 11+1 (max), Simon Stead 9, Kyle Howarth 8+2, Arthur Sissis 7+1, Josh Bates 6+1, Nathan Greaves 3+1 Match Points: Sheffield 3 Rye House 0 The Rockets will have the opportunity to gain revenge when they face the Tigers a second time, on this occasion at Rye House on Tuesday, September 13th (7.30pm start) in what is their final home League fixture of the campaign. Much sooner than that, they host Scunthorpe at Hoddesdon this Saturday (7pm start), with the two clubs currently separated in the standings by just two match points. Says Schroeck of the fixture: “It’s a real must-win match to push us up the League table. We need to brush ourselves off after our result at Sheffield and start again, but after the all-out display we produced in the Cup on Monday, we’re confident we can get the right result.” BMR Rockets: Rob Branford, Cameron Heeps, Edward Kennett (captain), Leigh Lanham, Kasper Lykke, Ben Morley, Stuart Robson Scunthorpe: Josh Auty, Ryan Douglas, Lewis Kerr, Michael Palm Toft, Jack Smith (guest), Fritz Wallner, Carl Wilkinson

DOUBLE WHAMMY The BMR Rockets have seen both their weekend fixtures fall to the wet weather. Tonight’s Premier League home match against Scunthorpe was called off just half an hour before the scheduled start time following late but continuous rain that ultimately put paid to the club’s determination to run. The Rockets’ planned trip to Peterborough tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon, meanwhile, has also been postponed due to a waterlogged track at the East of England Showground. New dates for both fixtures will be announced as soon as agreed between the respective teams. The Rockets’ next scheduled action is at Scunthorpe this coming Friday, and will be swiftly followed by a journey further north the following night to take on Berwick. Both those matches are in the Premier League. The next fixture at Rye House will be a week tomorrow (Sunday, September 11th), when the BMR Raiders face double header opponents in both King’s Lynn and Mildenhall. The Travel Plus National League racing commences at 4pm, but will be preceded by the British Youth 150cc Championship which will be staged at 2.30pm. Admission pricing for the double header will be as per a single Premier League match. The BMR Rockets are next at home in a rare Tuesday night outing, when they host Sheffield on September 13th (7.30 start).

NEW DATE FOR ROCKETS-SCORPIONS CLASH The BMR Rockets have moved quickly to agree a new date for their home Premier League clash against Scunthorpe following Saturday’s rain-off. The Scorpions will now be in town on Monday, September 19th, with a 7.30 start time. The necessity of a Monday staging night date follows from the Scorpions already being away at Plymouth on the Saturday and a BMR Raiders home fixture (vs the Isle of Wight) being in place on the Sunday.

ROCKETS AT PETERBOROUGH NEXT MONDAY Following the postponement of Sunday’s Premier League match at Peterborough, the BMR Rockets have now agreed a new date of next Monday, September 12th for their trip to the East of England Showground. It makes for a hectic spell for the Rockets, who are at Scunthorpe this Friday night, travel further north to Berwick the following evening and have a Tuesday night home appointment (7.30) in seven days’ time against Sheffield. The BMR Raiders fill in the remaining calendar “gap” when they host both King’s Lynn and Mildenhall in the Travel Plus National League on Sunday afternoon (4pm start). The League action will be preceded by the staging of the Mitas British Youth 150cc Championship at the stadium, which will kick in at the earlier time of 2.30pm.
