39 year old Piotr Swist will make his final Poole appearance of the season tonight (Saturday) when he lines up for the Castle Cover Pirates at Eastbourne (7.30pm) following the decision by the Poole management to re-declare their side. With a deadline of August 30th set in place for team changes Poole chief Matt Ford said "We just feel that we need to shore up a bit at reserve and whilst Piotr has been trying hard the results just have not been coming for him in recent week and having thought long and hard we have decided we cannot afford to take any further chances. I personally would like to express my sincere thanks to Piotr who has been a great guy to deal with and I thank him for his efforts". Swist joined the Pirates as cover for the Jason Doyle who broke an ankle on Good Friday and after a tough baptism at Arena Essex the Pole suddenly found his feet and produced some vitally important score returns. When Doyle was declared fit at the end of May Swist's position in the side was never in doubt and Australian Craig Watson was the rider chosen to make way. But since the beginning of August Swist has struggled to find that early show of form and the Pirates will now operate a doubling-up option with Steve Boxall and Tai Woffinden with a new number 8 shortly to be announced. Don't Boxall and Woffinden both race for Rye House? Would that not cause problems?

They do both ride for Rye House and Woffinden also rides Conference League, I think. Anyway, Swist got what he was looking for out of riding for Poole - a team place in Poland, well, sort of: he's been signed by Latvian side Lokomotiv Daugavpils, who race in the the Polish Liga II. He scored 12 points in Lokomotiv's recent victory over Opole.

my daughter rae remarked how angry swist looked after the reading match,so i imagine he was told then. i feel a bit sorry for him to be honest, maybe poole should have given him some mechanical help,if that was part of the problem, and they are that desperate to win the title. judged on his performance against reading,i think it should be remembered that currently the racers have the league's strongest reserve pairing,so no shame there. it will be a big ask for either of the replacements to come up trumps in the final(should the pirates get there) sub label's coventry as the home of the terminally deluded, poole surely can't be that far behind.

It's typical, isn't it. Poole get all the best riders. I thought Woffinden was attached to Wolverhampton.

Could this cause them problems ..... I hope : As Boxall was previously declared as No.8, the Pirates will need to make a change in that department, although there is some confusion there as the 2007 regulations state that a No.8 can only be re-declared once per season except in the case of long-term injury or retirement. Boxall had recently taken over from Ritchie Hawkins in the No.8 position.

Ah, but you're forgetting that old favourite "special dispensation", aren't you?

the swist removal, comes back to bite poole in the arse yet again. good win tonight for the pirates, largely due to the disappointing performance of mr adams,i would imagine his best bikes were nearer poland than poole tonight.
jason looks a good bet for the elrc tomorrow

To be fair, that's a bit harsh on Mr Clean........ he's one of the few that can hold their head high in the EL v GP (Sweden, Poland, Russia, etc) competition.
