Doesn't seem like a huge sum of money to run a professional sport for a season to me. It isn't compared to other sports, but it's still a huge sum of money if you only have average attendances of 1,000 or so. It also seems a fair bit considering teams only employ seven riders compared to much bigger squads in other sports. On the other hand, how would anyone here fancy the task of raising that at the drop of a hat, with nothing to secure the money against but a bit of goodwill? The cost of buying an EL speedway team is relatively affordable, but keeping it running is another thing. You can rely on a certain amount of money coming through the turnstiles and from television, but I reckon you should expect to make a loss of GBP 50K or more unless you have an exceptionally good season. Which is exactly the point I was making; I was offering investors a known product, speedway doesn't have that luxury. If it got more professional and actually knew what it could offer potential sponsors, it might be in better shape. As it is, it seems to me that promoters get involved for a short term investment, then catch a cold when they realise they need a 3 year plan at the very least.

Fair points Rob, but let me add that VAT is reclaimable and any concessions on admission costs should be balanced by programme/merchandise sales, then I think my figures are valid. Wish I could get HM Customs to agree that VAT on my sales was 'reclaimable' - yes perhaps the £600K was a grossed up figure but if not you've got a fair bit extra to find (also programmes/merchandise have some costs to them so sales doesnt equal profit)

Sorry to butt into the 'rivetting' accountants anonymous thread but can I just say what I feel about the situation... As I wroteyesterday on the BSF - and immediatly deleted as I knew it would take the wrong way - the sheer blinkered attitude of the P'boro fans is totally astounding! They must surely see that the writing is on the door - with Lord Flapperjack's (LOVE that name by the way!) track record they must surely see that their club is in serious danger. I can understand them being 'supportive' but to just bury their heads in the sand and pretend everything is rosy is naive at least! Whilst I hate to see any club close, I hope that the Horton apologists don't expect tears and sympathy when the inevitable happens. Seriously I would hate to see P'boro close down but it will be very hard not to say 'I told you so'!!!

How long before he-who-cannot-be-named-although-he-can-on-here threatens to sue Youtube? All the best Rob

Yes, liked the "choose an arse" bit, but the "choose the worst manager is speedway" shot had the golem Swales and Jim Lynch, so that was a toughie to work out, after all, somehow or other, Lynch managed to let Swales outsmart him in the final last season.

personally i thought it was cheap and childish,i do agree with the latin wolf that some pboro fans seem to a bit naive, but the youtube clip is somewhat pointless.
q)support someone who lost gb the world cup?? a)ok then!!! q)andersen or nicholls? a)didn't realise pboro had the choice, but andersen please. don't quite understand why swailes is the worst manager either, whoever called the shots on who rode in which races last year and who took tacticals, won peterborough the league, and if that was swailes then manager of the season in my opinion.
you tube clip looked like a bnp production

I can't work out which. Some of it I don't agree with & is a bit silly, other bits are very funny, while some bits are thought-provoking. All the best Rob

Wasn't Swales' genius that won the title last season, more the ineptitude of the BSI manager Jim Lynch.

Hmm not so keen on the xenophobic bits! And when exactly did P'boro have the choice between Andersen and Nicholls? Stead, Allen and Howe were all assets of P'boro's a fairly long time ago so, whilst I'm no Horton fan, I don't really see how it fits with the other stuff! Agree 100% with the Jesper B bit though!
