Fairly old news now, but: Berwick have confirmed that Czech star Adrian Rymel has agreed terms to make a very welcome return to the border club for the next two years.
Rymel joined the Bandits in 2001, but spent the past season on loan at Workington.
The rider was happy to discuss a return “home” with Berwick’s Dave Peet, John Anderson and Lynda Waite, who were able to get quickly down to the nitty-gritty of negotiations and landed their man professionally and efficiently, to the delight of Berwick fans as one of their heroes returns home.
Team manager Peet said, “Adrian was always one of our prime targets for next year and to clinch his two year deal so early gives us the best of all possible starts to our winter programme.”
“We couldn’t be happier, welcoming him back to Berwick, where we all feel he belongs.”www.berwickspeedway.co.uk

Berwick Bandits have added a second name to their 2010 line up, and joining Czech Adrian Rymel is another rider making a return to Shielfield Park and he is Craig Branney.
Branney, 27, had no hesitation in agreeing to the Berwick deal as team manager Dave Peet explained: “We got permission from Craig’s parent club, Workington, to speak to him on Tuesday and before close of business yesterday the deal was done and Craig’s agreed to be a Bandit.
“There wasn’t any hard-nosed negotiations to endure however as Craig stated quite categorically that come 2010 the only team he really wanted to race for was Berwick, and we were able to fulfil his ambitions.
“He’s a hard rider on track though, as we know when he’s scored points against us, and we also know that he is very capable of some spectacular scoring at our Shielfield track, and as he, and us, believe 2010 will see Branny back big-time on the Premier League scene this is an excellent acquisition for us as we’re looking for a marked improvement on 12th in the League I can assure all our fans.”www.berwickspeedway.co.uk

Don't think I'll be spending much time in the cruel, crazy town next season - I'm not coughing over good money to watch a bloody Branney try and race speedway.

Berwick now complete;- BERWICK'S speedway Bandits have named their full seven-man roster for the 2010 campaign.
Club owners John Anderson and Lynda Waite, were at tonight’s Christmas Dance organised by the Bandits’ Supporters Club, confirmed only two of his 2009 riders will line up, alongside two homecoming former Berwick favourites and three brand-new faces.
Anderson and Waite’s line-up – put together in conjunction with club manager Dave Peet -- comprises club skipper Paul Clews and 10-year testimonial Bandit Michal Makovsky. The prodigal returnees are high-flying Czech star Adrian Rymel and Cumbria-born Craig Branney, while new faces belong to New Zealander Jade Mudgway, Nick Simmons (from the Midlands) and Yorkshire tyke Lee Complin.
Anderson said: “When Lynda Waite and I took over this club a year ago, we had to hit the ground running” he admitted.
“This year we are better-placed and better-prepared. We can ensure we will provide the best-possible Saturday-night entertainment, ensure the riders we sign up are going to be available for all our fixtures and – just as importantly – ensure all the riders contracted are brought on terms which still meet the club’s budget. I think everyone will agree this coming season will see some of the best entertainment seen at Berwick Speedway.”
“Of the new boys, I’m especially pleased at bringing a new Kiwi to the club” he said. “Berwick has had such a proud tradition of New Zealanders over more than 40 years – great riders such as Roy Williams, Dave Gifford, Roger Wright, Mike Fullerton, Robin Adlington, Bruce Cribb and the late, great Wayne Brown – and I have a really good feeling about getting Jade Mudgway into black-and-gold, and look forward to his joining these other greats in any future inventory of our famous Kiwis”.
“Lee Complin is a great rider to have on board” enthused Anderson. “He raced in our final two meetings of 2009 and took my breath away with his overtaking and spectacular broad-siding. When I approached his parent club (who are Sheffield) last month, I was so pleased to learn we could talk to him – and when Lee told me he had been hoping I’d touch base, it was a dream come true!”
Complin has been quoted as saying that the new Berwick is a track any rider should so look forward to racing on that getting paid for the pleasure of skidding at Shielfield Park is just a bonus!
Nick Simmons has been on the Berwick radar since he scored a dramatic eleven points as a guest for the club at Glasgow in June, tipping the balance in their favour as they pulled off a shock 6-point victory.
With five riders arriving, some of last year’s team have inevitably moved on. Berwick asset Josef Franc, who had found it difficult to commit to regular weekend racing because of his extensive European calendar, has been loaned out to Sheffield for the coming term.
While Anderson and Waite have been building the line-up, co-owner Lynda Waite has been devoting his abundant energies to building up the club’s sponsorship contracts.
She stated: “We now look ahead to 2010 and the fact that we want the club to progress. We are putting together a very good team and we are looking to move up the Premier League table, but as in any professional sport costs increase year on year. If you or your company are interested in joining us get in touch right away”.
“We are easy to talk to and you will enjoy being part of our friendly, family orientated team. We will give you excellent publicity, not just in this area but across the country via TV, Radio, Posters, Flyers, PA, Programme, Newspaper coverage, Race Jacket publicity and whole lot more. Contact either myself or John Anderson and we will come and meet you and discuss all aspects of how we could work together and promote each other. We look forward to hearing from you” www.british-speedway.co.uk

BERWICK: SPECTACULAR LAUNCH PARTY Sunday March 07, 2010 OVER 400 enthusiastic Berwick Bandits’ supporters rock and rolled their way into the early hours of Sunday as the 2010 season’s launch took off in fine style. Attended by 2010 Bandits, Lee Complin, skipper Paul Clews and testimonial man (big day Saturday 27th March at 7!!) Michal Makovsky, they were joined by popular former Berwickers Jac (The Lad) Rempala, Stan (The Man) Burza as well as Newcastle’s Adam McKinna and Sheffield’s Paul Cooper – a man well known for hating to miss a good party. Also present was the guest of honour, former World Champion, American Sudden Sam Ermolenko who assisted regular centre green man Dick Barrie with the evening’s raffle draw when it was heard from the floor that the duo were described as “The best double act since Dolly Parton!” Sam also wowed the crowd, bringing the house down by taking to the guitar and hammering out a cracking rock tune with the superb Roadhouse Band who brought the evening to a climactic crescendo, belting out rock classic after rock classic, new and old. Preceding Roadhouse the top entertainment was provided by legendary Alexander Brothers, Jimmy Wilson providing a ceilidh and comedy from Bobby Colgan, all welcomely received by the large attendance who had a chance to peruse the new lines of 2010 merchandise – all very impressive stuff indeed. Following the fun and games it’s now the time that things get serious again with this coming Saturday presenting the club’s Press and Practice session to which ALL MEMBERS OF THE PRESS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND. At the free-to-the-public session, the 2010 Bandits will be introduced to the press at 5.30pm in the Black and Gold pub within Shielfield Park for a photo-call and interview interlude for radio, TV and newspapers to take full advantage. The action them moves to the track where the quad will take to the shale for the first time this season to grab as many laps practice before the visit of the Newcastle Diamonds on March 20th as usual – parade 6.50pm and heat one at 7.00pm. (BSPA) Sounded like a fun evening !

Happy with the signing of Anderson who appears to have been unlucky not to have found a job Glasgow.
Practice day tomorrow, there will only be 5 riders there as Adrian Rymel is off on a skiing holiday, whether or not Anderson is there is doubtful as you wonder just how much time he has had to get his kit sorted.

No surprise that Adrian Rymel top scored for the Bandits in their home meeting against Newcastle, but perhaps a shock that Makovsky only scored 4, and Craig Branney picked up paid 13 points. Berwick lost 43-47, with Kenni Larsen being the Diamond's highest scorer, with 11+3.
Peterborough fans may be interested to know Dakota North scored 1 from 4.
