The Silver Ski Rockets have confirmed four of their seven starters for the 2010 season. Chris Neath, Linus Sundstrom and back-to-back Rider of the Year Luke Bowen will all return from the 2009 team, and they will be joined by NLRC runner-up Kyle Hughes, who impressed in several late season guest bookings and will also take a doubling-up role in the Kart Raceway Cobras National League roster.
A fifth spot has been reserved for comeback star Andrew Silver, who has yet to make a decision on his return, following the concussion he suffered in September.
The final two places have been offered to a British rider and an Australian yet to make his competitive debut in Britain. Full details will be released when confirmed.
Elsewhere, Tommy Allen has had second thoughts about his decision to withdraw from racing in 2010, and his name has been circulated to other clubs as being available. Also available to other clubs will be Robert Mear, Stefan Ekberg (returning from his serious back injury), Steve Boxall , Jamie Courtney and Danny Halsey. www.ryehouse.com/news.php?NewsID=179

I wondered the same ! Rye House without the Mearcat !! ? Thought maybe I'd missed something......... he peaked early in 2009... and the burden of the number 1 race jacket sent his confidence into a downward spiral.. a GSA of 6.81 will be as good as it gets for the Mearcat...! Good on uncle Len - with him and Tommy Allen absent from the 2010 line up then things should be freshened up significantly . Suprised no Steve Boxall though!

Jordan Frampton becomes the latest addition to the Rockets' team. The Silver Ski Rockets have completed their starting line-up for the forthcoming 2010 season by naming Jordan Frampton and Stefan Ekberg to their squad.
Frampton's arrival publicly confirms one of the worst kept secrets of the close season, as the 24 year old comes in on loan from parent club Coventry with a starting average of 6.81 (which will him the Rockets' second heat leader. He spent 2009 at Newport representing the Wasps in the Premier League Riders Championship following two earlier seasons with Somerset, and also looked solid when doubling up for the Bees in the Elite League.
Frampton will double up once again, albeit this time in the Elite League with Swindon, and has invested heavily in new equipment in preparation for his dual role.
"Jordan first approached me about the prospect of riding for the Rockets in late May of 2009" said Rye promoter Len Silver. "Of course I could not offer him a team place at that time but, because of my high opinion of him as an all-round rider of tough physical and mental ability, I told him that I would make every effort to fit him into the Rockets side for 2010, and so it has proved to be. We easily agreed terms way back in November and his signing has been something of an open secret since then. This new dual role with Swindon - one of Britain's bigger tracks - can only help Jordan to improve and that in turn helps the Rockets. I am delighted with the potential that Jordan brings to our side".
With Andrew Silver a non-starter, meanwhile, Stefan Ekberg returns to a Rye House race jacket after a seasons absence. The North Star first rode for Rye in August 2007, providing a key spark to the teams Premier League championship run-in of that year, and remained in the side for the 2008 campaign. Injury in the Promotion Play-Off tie at Kings Lynn that October ruled him out of a 2009 spot, but the Swede is clearly out to make up for lost time. He is currently in the middle of a stamina improvement programme by playing ice hockey (at which he is of professional standard) three times a week and jogging in the snow every day. He will be skiing with Len Silver in La Plagne (France) in the New Year and he is extremely confident of being able to produce his very best form right at the start of the season.
So the Rockets line up for the new season looks like this:
1. Chris Neath (capt.) 6.93 2.Jordan Frampton 6.81 3.Stefan Ekberg 6.78 (reduced due to his injury of 2008) 4.Linus Sundstrom 6.74 5.Luke Bowen 5.99 6.Kurt Shields(Aus.) 5.00 7.Kyle Hughes 3.00
A formal work permit is still awaited for Shields, but has only been delayed by virtue of the Christmas holiday period and it is expected to be issued in the near future.
John Sampford, Rockets team manager, is delighted with the seven men at his disposal, saying, "With both Linus (with Ipswich) and Jordan benefitting from Elite action in doubling-up roles, and observing the form of Luke in the Scunthorpe meeting, I have every reason to be confident. Stefan adds wisdom in the pits as well as points on the track, so his re-introduction offers a double boost, while our captain, Chris, has spoken to me about his personal determination to lead by example and retain his current number one position. And added to the top five, our vital reserve positions look as good as any pair in the League.
I can't wait to get going."www.ryehouse.com

Great news for Rye House fans that Stefan Ekberg seems to have come through rehabilitation feeling strong. He'll also be involved in the sport back in his home country, Sweden, though not as a rider - it's thought he'll be involved in a manager's capacity with Piraterna.

P & P days cancelled.....
THE 2010 season has unfortunately claimed its first weather victim, with the Rye House Press and Practice Day scheduled for next Friday (March 5th) and subsequent practice sessions (6th, 7th) called off a week ahead of time.
The current wet and muddy conditions have prevented promoter Len Silver from working on the circuit to properly prepare it for these sessions. Silver does, however, hope to reschedule at least one practice session for the period between the opening Ben Fund Bonanza (Sunday, March 14th) and the Rockets' first team match at home to Leicester on March 20th.
