If your rider achieved 8 how can you say it's unsustainable, especially in a diluted league? Never heard of loss of form, or over achieving ? take a look at Swiderski, last season compared to this, will he ever achieve what he did last year ? i doubt it. Then take a look at Zetterstrom, he may will have an elite champions trophy sitting on his mantlepiece, but did his good performances not put him out of a job ? I know the last example is moving the goalposts somewhat but if you have imagination(and i'm sure you do) you'll see how its all connected.

The theory behind the post was nothing to do with football referee's or penalties, the fictitious situation was merely an example to find out whether cheating in any guise was acceptable when you are representing the wishes of a larger audience. I don't think it matters really, as points manipulation is a sort of grey area. If there are loopholes in the rules, then competitors will always find ways to exploit them, so you therefore need to tighten them up or think of new ways to redress the balance. The problem in speedway is that the BSPA seem to draft their rules on the back of a fag packet in the bar at the annual conference, and seem incapable of thinking through the consequences of anything. This season is even more of a case in point, and pretty everyone on this forum could have told them the consequences of raising the points limit after the season has started. Yes, there is always going to be a problem with middling riders who raise their average potentially putting themselves out of a team place. However, there are things that could be done to encourage teams to keep such riders, whilst still forcing them to release heat leaders which is what's really needed. Even I managed to come up with a reasonably worked idea whilst sitting in the pub one day, so I can't believe it should be beyond the wit of someone in the BSPA to do so.
