So onto a new week. Last week's deserving winner, selected by Rico, was Mark Legg, the latest former promoter to leave a trail of debt in his wake.
I notice Dietbowers has yet to select FOTW this year (as neither have Grachan or Star Lady, but they will get their turn in forthcoming weeks).
Dietbowers, would you like a week off from constructing Sube's Welsh Gulags to select FOTW next Saturday?

I'd like to nominate Phil who owns the BSF (and/ or the Mods) for allowing his forum to descend into the complete disgrace it currently is.
The WWoS may be a bit OTT at times, but I feel the Mods on here would never allow a thread like the one on Thomas H Jonasson currently on BSF to continue.
The Mods are activate as they have been moving and merging threads, but feel its okay to leave threads like THJ untouched.
What on earth is Phil and his team of Mods playing at?
Is it all part of a masterplan to give Phil an excuse to shut it down?
flapperjacks the lot of 'em!

I second that one, Snophie. I noticed that several of the moderators have the date of their last visit set to private, so we cannot tell when they were last on.
If the current group of moderators is insufficient, I'm sure there are other regular posters that aren't complete idiots that could be promoted, even on a temporary basis, to help ensure order. Whilst the ExGen guy is something of a joke, the things he/she/it says are pretty appalling. I'm sure if the guy came over here, he/she/it would be quickly shot down viciously.
I wouldn't be surprised if you replied to the thread insulting the guy or being 'abusive', you get a warning instead of him, seems to be the current standard of moderating.

In defence of moderators I've modded the Lynn forum for several years now and for most of that time have needed to do nothing. However there was one short time, lasted about 5 days, when we seemed to have trolls etc 24/7. You would be amazed how much time it took to sort it out. That's not to mention the abuse that can be directed at mods (I'm a thick skinned cow so it didn't bother me ). We only had a couple of hundred members at the time and 2 mods. The BSF has thousands of members and about half a dozen mods so I dread to think how much time it would take for them to sort out the mess it's in. The Weird World self moderates, it's a small, more intimate place (by which I mean many of us know each other before anyone starts ;D) and is much easier to control (I can see Sub going red and seething when he reads that word ) I'd hate to see the BSF fold but I can see it happening sadly.

I agree with the nomination for the mods on the BSF. They are randomly picking and choosing when and what to do. Now I am a Mod on my own team's forum and yes we are nowhere near the size of the BSF but if you are asked to do a job then you should be doing it properly. If more mods are needed then they should be sought but so far it's a free for all on there.
Disgraceful.
And that's me out of the asylum for now, maybe for ever.

I'd like to nominate pirate_paul and jacques (alas, she didn't take not getting her own way on here very well at all - ah well, tough) for suggesting that the ExGen character is me.

I have had a bit of an idea of that in the past, Star Lady, as I was (albeit for only a short period) a moderator on a forum with over 1,000 members I believe. There isn't often much that needs doing, but that is again why I think more moderators could be needed, or perhaps allocating an extra mod to each specific forum, as there is a lot of chat. It would be more efficient I think in a forum that size, though that may just be me.
Though they may get quite a few PM's, I've heard several reports of moderators not replying. I think I've complained in the past and the only time I ever got a message was after I sent a snotty message after they changed my signature for no reason. (Apparently the text was too large, so the obvious option was to put 'removed by moderator for breaching rules' or some such, rather than reducing size.)
I appreciate it can be difficult, but if you struggle, you delegate/spread the work so its more manageable.

The only chance of the forum closeing down if a bunch of wet wipes and do goooders moaning and groaning all time because someone get upset by a nasty swear word . I would rather there were no mods on any forums if you cant take what people say then dont on them simple .

I would rather there were no mods on any forums if you cant take what people say then dont on them simple . I see your point, but on some large forums such as this you could stumble across it and begin reading it without knowing what it is like, only to discover a post or comment that really upsets / offends you. It wouldn't be such an issue if it were a forum private to all bar members, but it is a public forum, you dont have to register to read what is said, and I dont believe there are any age limits in place on it for registration anyway. Swearing doesnt personally bother me (some postings do, but hey, I'm a big girl, I expect it, I'd just rather know whats being said than live in blissful ignorance) - but others it does. If you're going to have the largest forum on a sport in this country (as far as I'm aware, it is) you want to make sure nothing beyond friendly banter is on there. Just my opinion, anyway.

I remember the last time we had a "problem" poster here. I sent a message and I think posted that he could do as he pleased and that if he carried on the way he was there'd only be me and him here. The forum would be deserted. And things calmed down reasonably well, with snyper1010, while still being annoying to some, isn't quite as "in your face" as he was. I'm obviously banned from posting on the BSF, but it's seems to have been on a downward trend ever since they decided to ban me. I have precious little sympathy for them. Any balanced person looking at my body of posts at the BSF and the posts around them would find that I seldom, if ever, started any slanging match. I just stood my ground when others started. They complained, I didn't. C'est la vie.

The guy is just a sick attention seeking moron, replying to his posts or threatening to quit the forum is just feeding his perverted appetite, everyone should just ignore him.

I know I should have ignored. And I had already replied to his post before I read the thread suggesting everyone ignore him. However, it is hard to ignore something quite so sick as that.....
