why not just spice up the EL with more variety One advantage of a conference style system, is that it creates more title races (each conference is effectively a league competition), and more opportunities for teams to reach the 'playoffs'. This in turn keeps interest alive for teams who otherwise might be out of the running in a conventional league system. However, conference systems can be unfair (particularly as the conferences can be of an unequal standard), and in Britain would be somewhat contrived anyway. That's why I prefer the Australian system of having a single home and away league, but with playoffs to decide the title. Qualifying teams finishing higher get home advantage and/or double chances, and under the older systems, the top team also got a bye to a later stage of the playoffs.

I dont think playoffs should determine a champion.
If you aint top you aint the champion its as simple as that. And to think that 6th place could be champions in a 9 team league is utter bollocks. Why not just have 1 H&A 1st place is champions simple as that. If you aint good enough to be in contention then tough luck try again next year. I think the Pl has a good set up just now plenty teams 1st place is champion then play-offs to meet in the Promotion/Relegation race.

I dont think playoffs should determine a champion. It depends whether you look upon speedway as a sport or entertainment. It also depends on whether you want purity or a financially viable sport. There's no doubt 'playoffs' increase interest, and keep the season alive for teams that would be otherwise out of the running. Personally, I have little problem with them provided the more successful teams during the regular league programme are given extra benefits at the 'playoff' stage. And to think that 6th place could be champions in a 9 team league is utter bollocks. Well I agree that is bollocks, but that doesn't mean the concept is wrong.

Wibble i agree with the play offs for the promotion race in the PL but not for a league winner.
Its just totally crazy to think that somone that hasnt performed aswell as someone else can ultimately be the Champions.
