Yep thats a real blow, and it must raise doubts over whether he will be able to return to the saddle (and after an injury nightmare like this would he want to?)

Absolutely gutted for Mark - I knew things weren't looking great with the healing process but was hoping that there might have been more light at the end of the tunnel by now. Sadly it seems like not.

Taken from the Ipswich forum:
Good news reading in this weeks speedway star that Mark is booked in for that long awaited operation on his leg on Monday April 28th.
" I am booked in for an operation on Monday, April 28th, and am keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes well. " Getting my leg fixed is what i am concentrating on. It might have been a longer road back that we had all hoped, but we will see how everything goes and if it does go to plan then don't rule me out of being back at the start of the 2009 season".
Perhaps we haven't seen the last of that famous Loramski blast from the back after all!! Very best of luck on the 28th Mark.

Mark has a weekly spot in the Evening Star, and thought you might be interested in his thoughts for the future of British speedway, Loramski style:
24 April 2008 | 11:58 THE MARK LORAM COLUMN
WHILE Sweden have young riders like Simon Gustafsson coming through, there does not appear to be a lot of young English talent coming through the system.
In my new job involved with the Under-21's I plan to make a few changes once I get Monday's thigh operation out of the way.
What I would like to do is to gain a mailing list of all young moto-cross riders and invite them to speedway trials.
Speedway offers more bright lights than moto-cross and it is much more lucrative as well.
Most moto-cross riders could become good speedway riders if they took the plunge with Chris Louis one example of someone who switched codes.
I think we need to do this, and Buxton is a track that could be used for this purpose. If there are any good riders who would do well for Ipswich then I will be pointing them in the right direction.
MY priority for the next few weeks is to make as good a recovery as possibly from the operation I am to undergo in Norwich Hospital on Monday.
The surgeon is hopeful I can make a full recovery after the first operation following my leg break last March did not prove a complete success.
A bone graft is going to be done on my thigh and I am confident I will be in much better shape before long.
But I will have to go for some while without putting any weight on the leg.
Wish me well!

Oh good god. I do wish they'd warned us they were going to show the crash - not once but twice. I could have done without seeing that again, particularly at the moment. Fingers crossed for the outcome of this one. Typical Mark though - still smiling!

Later , when I got home, I realised 29 years ago, I remembered I asked Shrimp for his autograph when he was in the very same situation!
