Hey all sorry i aint been about much, new work etc.
some may have seen my BSF post regarding my Jawa 500 quite a few months back. I still aint got the engine sorted, so im looking for some educated advice.
I started the bike up today and my description of the noise is a pneumatic drill inside the top of the engine. I took the cover off and all the pistons are in place springs are fine and the drive chain thingy is intact.
Also if i rev it too high the engine loses all power and stalls. Is it possible that a piston is jammed closed?
I really have no idea and would be grateful for any help. I know alot of people dont like me and will take this chance to have a laugh and joke but my bike is my pride and joy and i really do want it fixed so i would appreciate genuine help.
Shaun

I've no idea what they are, but when I had a little bike for messing around on (not a speedway one), the piston rings went on it and that was it more or less knackered. Here's what wikipedia has to say on piston rings: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piston_ring

Now it's the other way around - you get your bike out and it's you more or less knackered.

Thanks Sube. I think i will need to find a engine tuner in Scotland or near by that i can take it to. I really am a novice when it comes to delving into engines i know how and why they work but after that im useless.

Or try Topcat over at the chatzone, he has some speedway bikes.

Well see one rider already helped me collect the bike and get it going in the beginning but with the new season upon us i dont want to be asking any of them as they will have their own preperations to do.
I may speak to TopCat though thanks for the heads up on him

I had plenty of experience with bikes in my younger days but i could always get them going with a few vodka and cokes.

A speedway engine has four valves, unless it's a very old one.

Sounds like you found the valve springs. Take a tip, put it all back in place and take it to somebody who knows about engines before you fuck it right up...
