So it's November the first and it's all over for another year . So what memories , good and bad , will you have from this years speedway season . I'll kick it off then - The good --------------- My speedway holiday in May and going down to visit Jacques and Cousteau . Getting rat-arsed in Highbridge , before the Somerset v Glasgow meeting in June and doing a live radio interview for Radio Bristol Winning away from home - alright it was at Mildenhall , but we were shite this year . The PL Pairs - what a meeting , it was awesome . And the company was pretty good that night too . Dragging Genghis round the various Scottish tracks one weekend - yes i count Berwick as Scottish . Edinburgh v Redcar . That was a scream that night . Grievsy beating the Pooboy in the final of the Ashfield Classic . Having a couple of beers with Glasgow legend , Jim McMillan , in the clubhouse at Somerset . The afternoon bevvy session in the Prince of Wales at Cardiff and meeting all those wonderful people . Last night at Armadale - Tigers/Monarchs love-in ;D The not so good ------------------------ All those home defeats Poor old Jacques coming up to Glasgow and the meeting gets rained-off after 1 heat . All the other bloody rain-offs Tripping over the kerb in Cardiff , cause i was pissed , and breaking my collar-bone . Losing to the bloody Monarchs 8 times this season . The bloody Monarchs winning the league in the season we were really shite .

The good...... Being back in the PL - such a novelty to see different visiting teams each week & not a sniff of GPitis in sight. Ulrich Ostergaard - bloody brilliant No.1 and a quickly established Racers legend. Nicki Glanz - pure raw talent & guts, one of the highlights of the 2008 Racers team. Booing Somerset riders - nothing really personal against the riders themselves (well not all of them), but it winds up the carrot crunching fans good & proper. ;D Meeting a good few forumers during the season. All of them lovely people, even the few from Swindon I met. The not so good..... Mark Lemon - disappointing performance from a rider who should have been top 5 in the PL. Still finished with a nice average for whoever picks him up in 2009. Reading 2nd strings - lost far more meetings than they won for the team. PL Pairs - WE WOZ ROBBED!!! Smallmead closing

The Good: Seeing speedway on new tracks, Heusden Zolder, Grinsted, Esbjerg, Motala, Vastervik, Daugavpils, Zielona Gora, Lonigo and Pardubice. Weekend trip to Edinburgh, Berwick and Glasgow and having a laugh with ML about Rumble Strips. ;D Trip to Sheffield, Scunthorpe and Workington in April. Sex on the Beach in Lithuania Hans winning in Lonigo. The atmosphere at Monmore for the Play Off Final with the Monarchs. The Bad: Injuries, especially to Lakeside when they were doing so well. Kev H moaning about the coach journey to Poland. Glasgow being off on my speedway trip in April. A work colleague throwing his teddies out the cot just because I was at speedway. My car breaking down and being out of use of 3 weeks. Reading closing down. My car retiring from speedway The season ending.

The Good....... Berwick's vast league improvement at home. Berwick's overall league position compared to 2006&2007. My visit to Perry Bar when Berwick won. Nice stadium, lovely people. The form of Adrian Rymel, finally becoming the No 1 rider he has always been capable of. The signing of Paul Clews at SFP, born racer. Berwick winning in Cumbria's barbaric wasteland. Having a laugh again at the speedway with my mates. Edinburgh winning the league(Yes ) Truly deserved. The Bad....... More sad than bad, the passsing of Tim Stone. The loss of speedway in Newport, always loved my trips there. Whinging people at speedway, be thankful your beloved club are running. The muppet in the City Arms who wouldnae take a scottish £5 but would take a scottish £10. The BSPA for being useless. And finally....................... The end of season news about Berwicks uncertain future.

I think standing there until about 10pm at Brandon watching Great Britain show themselves up in the World Cup summed up the season for Speedway in general. My interest is getting lower by the month.
The lonely thing which will get me back to full support would be for Leicester to open.

Interchanged at frequent intervals with Madsenissoooooooslow & Millsisaonetrackpony Wacks - What track would Mills be a one-track pony at? Because I've seen him perform well at: * Rye House (legendary 18-point max in the key fixture of the 2005 CL season) * Oxford * King's Lynn * Wimbledon * Buxton (he rides that so fast that he fell off and still won the race ) * Swindon * Reading * Edinburgh * Newcastle Quite a veriety of shapes and sizes of track there. And that's just for starters. So he's at least an nine-track pony and probably much more. Millsy is a legend.

You won't have seen him perform well at those tracks this season Ghengis. I think the one track this season may have been Brum (it certainly wasn't Smallmead) last year it was KL when he was chaperoned for most of the year by Topinka. I could probably draw up a list of tracks Suchanek has performed well at in the past, but that wouldn't alter the fact that he's shit and probably classed as a first bend pony Millsy doesn't ride Smallmead well so why he came back I don't know. His confidence dropped, average stagnated and tbh he looked a better rider when he first lined up for us in the early 00's. He's a good PL reserve or a mediocre 2nd string and has been for the past 4/5 years and probably will be for the next 4/5 years too. His comments about Reading a couple of times this season when he's either visited or guested for KL have been ill advised and the mystery illness that prevented him riding for us in a couple of our last meetings & the end of era meeting left a bitter taste, funny how his "illness" didn't seem to affect his guest bookings for KL or at Ippo. To summarise, he may well be a nice lad and yes we know a member of the Oxford CL title winning team, but his attitude towards the end of the season was a kick in the bollocks for Reading fans who had always backed & supported him.

The Happy * Finally getting to watch my team from the other side of the fence * Watching the New Year Classic and getting coated in Welsh Mud (some of which is still in my coat pockets) * Seeing my dad back on a speedway bike after a 54 year absence (!!!!) * Managing to infect another 4 people with the speedway bug so that they came (nearly) every week * Shaking the hands of Jan Andersson and Anders Michanek at the EoE meeting * Getting Jason Doyle's girlfriend's telephone number ;D The Sad * Watching Millsy and Tom P's confidence slowly ebb away until neither of them could give a toss * Finding out that there would be no 2009 * Watching the increasing number of star riders walk away from the British League * The fact that Jason Doyle's girlfriend never returned my text message * Packing up the last lorry at Smallmead and watching it slowly trundle away..... Pip

Wacks - but loyalty works two ways, remember the Reading management dropping Millsy after he added a point to his average in 2005.
There must have been something wrong in the Reading pits if you couldn't get the best out of riders such as Mark Lemon and Chris Mills.
