Lets just home a Berwick fan wins the lottery this week . Sort of expected it, he has been struggling for the last few seasons, but now with the Credit Crunch, will anybody buy it? or will we all have to become Monarchs supporters

If i was a Bandits fan , i would be worried big time . I honestly cant see a long queue of prospective buyers as Speedway isn't exactly an attractive investment opportunity . And in the current economic climate - even less so .

Not much more information, but this looks to be the official release, from www.berwickspeedway.co.ukBandits’ boss of 9 years announces next weekend is his last as promoter putting the club on the market.
Waite took over the reigns of the club when the previous promotion were desperate of an influx of funds, and in 1999 the new regime began.
He never let anyone remain in any doubt his aim was one of Premier League domination and that coveted league title the carrot that kept him battling against all odds, but sadly that crown was one that eluded him, although this season’s sixth placing was a particularly satisfying result with the side going into next weekend’s Young Shield Final a fitting finale for the man who kept the Bandits alive for almost a decade.
Having taken the Premier League Four Team Championship at Coventry in front of SKY TV cameras in 2002 over Arena-Essex, Newport and Hull, the silverware has been thin on the ground, enthusiasm has still run at maximum power but costs have sky-rocketed and various other factors have coloured the promoter’s views.
On Saturday night after his side scorched through to the Young Shield Final Waite addressed an eager crowd, but his announcement wasn’t the one the crowd had hoped to hear.
He said: “Next Saturday will be my last meeting as promoter at Berwick and the club is up for sale with immediate effect from tonight, and I'm looking for buyers NOW.
"There's an AGM in November and we need a buyer before then. Thanks to every one who has supported me over the last 9 years, all the sponsors and riders, fans and staff. Every moment has made this a fantastic journey over 9 year... thank you and good night."
He later went on to explain that over recent years a lot of things had changed, and whilst it was the hardest decision he’d ever had to make the time was right for him to stand down and allow new blood in to run the show, but was keen to point out that he felt with expenses now running in speedway at an all time high it’s unlikely that a fan-based consortium would be financially successful in this day and age, hinting that a solid, successful business to run the sport as a going concern the preferred option for the sake of the club’s longevity.
He also said that his personal circumstances and direction had changed of late and the constant speedway 24/7 365 days a year, year in, year out lifestyle was not where he needed to be anymore for his personal reasons despite the extreme sadness in letting go of a club that he has allowed to live in his heart with such an intensity for almost 10 years, not to mention in his days as a rider when he actually rode as a Bandit in the early to mid 1970s.
The express requirement is now for any potential buyer of the Berwick Bandits to contact Peter Waite at the club as soon as possible, for as he stated himself there’s a declaration of intent required by the authorities in mid-November, by which time any transfer should be complete.
The Berwick Bandits have gone through several winters of uncertainty and turmoil and every time have come out of it racing professionally again, for 41 seasons, and with the backing of the supporters any new buyer will adopt their overwhelming enthusiasm and belief that has kept the little club in the sleepy north east corner of Northumberland alive when the experts in 1968 said the Bandits wouldn’t last one season… hmm… experts.
Press releases will be issued with as much regularity as possible on any developments with any potential change of ownership as and when we can issue the information – as always through all the usual press agencies and organisations.
Thank you.

Only three days to go... From www.speedwayworld.tvPREMIER League club Berwick are facing the possibility of closure if a buyer is not found by later this week. Promoter Peter Waite has run the Bandits since 1999 but announced during the closing weeks of the season that he would be standing aside. And with the BSPA Conference taking place at the end of the week, a new man needs to be in charge to represent the club by that stage. Waite says the final deadline is Thursday, November 13, but there has been no suggestion so far of any serious interest. He said: "Originally I thought everyone thought I was joking when I did it, but now the reality is hitting the fan, the reality that Berwick is closing. If nothing comes before the 13th, I will close it - that's what is going to happen."The final countdown in well and truly on, and I only hope and pray it’s not the terminal final countdown in the Bandits’ long and fine history, action must take place now. "I would urge people to contact me as soon as possible, we really do have an ever-reducing time to talk and agree a deal." Waite's time in charge came to an end with a relatively successful 2008 season in which the Bandits finished in the Premier League's top six, and were defeated finalists in the Young Shield. The highlight of the most recent era was their victory in the Premier League Fours at Coventry in 2002.
