That's the line of thought many of us have Sube. By the way, with a sewage farm just behind Smallmead you normally get a pretty good idea which way the wind is blowing.

Why demolish it now? Why not just wait a couple of years, with continuing activity on the site, and see which way the wind is blowing? Because I suspect Reading are being led up the garden path. The council allocating some land conditional on finding third-party funding to build it is effectively meaningless, particularly as Stadium UK's plans were based on the dubious notion of more casino de-regulation. It wouldn't surprise me if this isn't a way to engineer the sale of a prime piece of real estate without getting the blame for doing away with public amenities. Demolish the stadium ASAP, whilst the land sits derelict for a couple of years as 'negotiations' to build a replacement continue. In the meantime, hopefully the fans will drift away never to return and raise difficult questions as to why there's no new stadium.
