And so the season comes to it's final month and sadly for the regulars at the Messiahdome, there'll be at least two visits from their nearest and not so dearest. Why unfortunate? Well, the Monarchs are league champions and their fans will no doubt be looking to rub it into the noses of the Ashfield faithful. Or will they boycott the meetings? And what else is on offer in October at Glasgow?

And what else is on offer in October at Glasgow? That's about it i'm afraid . Two visits from the forces of darkness on the 5th and 12th and an afternoon of watching wobbling novices , Gary Beaton and Adam McKinna do battle for the Heathersfield Silver Helmet on the 19th .

Good luck on Sunday Paulco - but I fear the only way you're going to beat the Monarchs though is for Graham Flint to have one of his more eccentric meetings - in your favour.

And so October at Ashfield starts with a Heathen Cup encounter between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Edinburgh will be operating Rider Replacement for William Lawson, while Tomasz Piszcz is guesting in place of Thomas H Jonasson. Now, this would be the other way round if it was a serious competition, but the "unwritten rules" of the Heathen Cup allow it. In fact, the "unwritten rules" would allow guests for both Lawson and Jonasson, but no other suitable guest is available, so it's Rider Replacement for Lawson. The teams:
Glasgow
1..Shane " Messiah" Parker 2..Lee "Funky Chicken" Dicken 3..Peter Juul Larsen 4..Robert "Elite League" Ksiezak 5..Trent Leverington 6..Mitchell Davey 7..Anders Andersen
Edinburgh
1..William Lawson..R/R 2..Tomasz "Stop Taking The" Piszcz 3..Ryan Fisher 4..Andrew Tully 5..Matthew "Matilda" Wethers 6..Derek "Desperate Deek" Sneddon 7..Aaron "Hair Bear Bunch" Summers

And it must've been a miserable afternoon in Glasgow, unless you were wearing blue and gold, as the Monarch's claimed an unlikely 5-0 in Ht 15 to win the meeting by a single point. In that Ht 15 Robert Ksiezak was excluded after a tumble and then Shane Parker's bike gave up the ghost in the re-run, which he was leading at the time.

And it gets worse for the heathen Tigers as it appears that Robert Ksiezak has suffered a broken collarbone as a result of his crash in Ht 15. With rumours that Ksiezak is keen to try his hand in Poland and the Elite League, this could mean he's ridden his last race for the Tigers. Best wishes to the young fellow on the road to recovery.

Apparently the usual "friendly rivalry" between the two teams is going on over on the BSF, but the current talk is about Ryan Fisher, who supposedly made "obscene gestures to the crowd as he went round after heat 15". Should be good for a few pages of arguments.

It seems he had but we had a meeting with Dame Misfortune and directed her to the Glasgow side of the pits late on in the meeting.

And this week sees the masses from Auld Reekie making the trip along the M8 again, this time in league action, with the Grand Monarch officiating. Will the Tigers finally defeat their nearest and not so dearest this season? Will Ryan Fisher be beaten by a Tiger? Will Derek Sneddon be warned or excluded for "spinning his tyre" at the start? Will the Grand Monarch manage to outrage paulco with an exclusion of an innocent Glasgow rider? I guess we'll find out on Sunday, won't we?

And a lovely way of ending a difficult season would be putting one over on the Monarchs , but will it happen ? We can only hope . Anyway we line up - 1 The Messiah 2 Big Lee 3 Richard Juul's grandson 4 r/r for EL Bobby 5 Trento 6 Mitchell Davey 7 Angry Andersen And the Monarchs - 1 Willie " i canny ride tracks bigger than Armadale , Redcar and Mildenhall " Lawson 2 r/r for the master of invisibility 3 Ryan" the fence" Fisher 4 Andrew " no personality " Tully 5 Matilda 6 Desperate Deek ... booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo 7 Ann Summers
And taking his usual place in the box for a Scottish derby is none other than " The Grand Monarch " himself .

And it proved to be another miserable day for the Tigers as Edinburgh won, again, at Ashfield (45-47). A bit of a capitulation from the Tigers as they had led 10-2 after two heats and were leading by 12 points after Ht 8. But a bit of a collapse late in the meeting shattered their hopes of ending their league season on a winning note.
