Vastervik
Annoyed with journalists, Vastervik's chairman, Ivar Svensson, has appealed to his sponsors in times of economic difficulty. Putting the disappointment of not making the play-offs behind him, he's now looking to the future, and trying to raise more money for the club. He has also said he will step down if that's the wish of the financial backers, but that he is confident he can do the job, and can't imagine there being no speedway in Vastervik. They are hoping to see Niels Kristian Iversen sign for a sixth season, although Smederna, amongst others, are also chasing his signature.

Vargarna have set their sights high in their first year after promotion to the Elitserien, saying Jason Crump is top of their wish list. Vetlanda might have something to say about that, although Smederna are after another one of their riders - Rune Holta.
Stefan Danno has confirmed his retirement after riding in the Karlstad Open, and Robert Eriksson is also talking about retiring, with Valsarna hoping he will manage them next season.

"After Kenny Olsson's fatal accident a year ago everyone was talking about safety, which is good. A year later the SM-finals will be run at any cost. I did not think the track was safe and don't regret my decision," said Jonsson. source: www.nt.se

A motion will be put forward by Dackarna this fall, regarding individual "farming". Since there are 10 elite teams and only 5 in the allsvenskan the problem is obvious with todays system.
This will work like this, teams will not have a farmer-team in a lower division but they will have deals with certain riders from allsvenskan or div1 teams who can double-up for them.
If enough teams are on board with this, it might become reality for 2009.

This could be interesting as it unfolds. The latest is that Andreas is sticking to his guns, but he has now spoken to Tobias Johansson and has his support. Johansson thinks that SVEMO should be doing more for the national team, and has put forward a proposal for financial backing. He thinks there should be monetary incentives for those teams who finish in the medals. He's also critical of the league system, saying that it excludes their own riders and encourages foreigners, and would like to see changes, as well as the limit on tyres being scrapped. source: svt.se

Sponsors for Västervik aren't happy with the lack of communication from the club after making losses of around 700,000 kr over the last year. They say they might have been able to help out had they known attendances were falling, with a possible investment in marketing. The club have defended themselves by arguing they thought the amount of contact between the two parties was acceptable. They say they hoped that getting to the play-offs would help their economic situation, but unfortunately they didn't make it to that stage. However, in better news, Billy Forsberg will be back in 2009 after the Board made it clear that his signature would be one of the conditions of them voting to keep the club in the top league, Tomasz Gollob is almost sealed, and Västervik have made a verbal agreement for farming with newly relegated MasarnaAvesta. sources: www.nyheterna.net, www.sr.se Whilst it's true that clubs are being careful with money, and the Swedish economy is suffering a downturn, it doesn't seem to be too much of an immediate worry for speedway. Smederna, Västervik, Indianerna and Piraterna have all got ways of donating to the club on their websites, but, to the best of my knowledge, none have said they won't be able to run Elitserien next year if that doesn't happen.

AllsvenskanMasarnaAvesta are having a meeting on the 12th October to elect a new board of dircetors. However, the club is said to be in debt, reportedly owing Elitserien riders 800,000 kr, and 100,000 kr to Team Dalakraft's riders. Davey Watt (140,000 kr), Leigh Adams (130,000 kr), and Kenneth Bjerre (100,000 kr) are said to be the largest sums owing to riders. They hope to repay the debt as soon as possible, but admit it could take a few years. source: www.dalademokraten.seValsarna's chairman, Lars Persson has resigned after losing out in the finals of the Allsvenskan. He cites lack of time after buying houses and starting a new company as a reason, but he'll still be involved with the club, and will remain at the helm until March. Persson had been sure they were going to win the league this year, and had accrued sponsors accordingly, but injuries to some of their key riders - Peter Ljung and Thomas H Jonasson put paid to their title bid. He goes on to say he hopes that deals can be done with Sebastian Alden, Adrian Gomolski and Daniel Davidsson primarily, and would also like to see more of Robin Tornqvist and Anders Mellgren. source: www.nwt.seElitserienVästervik's chairman, Ivar Svensson, has resigned after the recent criticism from the sponsors. "I feel I do not have the confidence of members and sponsors to continue the work", he said. Another board member, Monika Karlsson has also expressed her intention to resign, though has yet to do so formally. Vice President, Larry Carlsson will lead the board until a new chairman is elected. source: www.vt.se

David Ruud will be staying on at Lejonen after signing his contract for another year. source: www.lejonen.seRospiggarna want to buy back their stadium after it was sold to the municipality three years ago. They are hoping to find a sponsor who will enable them to do so, and are willing to sell the name of the stadium to any investor. Greg Hancock has re-signed for the team. sources: www.sr.se, www.rospiggarna.nuContrary to recent reports, Västervik's chairman, Ivar Svensson now says he hasn't resigned, and that he will stay for as long as the members have confidence in him. An action plan has been formed to help the club acquire sponsors and assist with marketing to help them raise money. As well as Forsberg and Gollob, Bjarne Pedersen and Niels Kristian Iversen are thought to be done deals, but it looks like Mads Korneliussen will be looking for a new club. source: www.nyheterna.net
