Indeed Kev. The article shows that even 30 odd years ago people were bemoaning the guest rules as they do today, but in the years between nobody has come up with a suitable & viable alternative to them for British Speedway.
The same programme had a Q&A page with the then Racers team manager who commented on how difficult it was to comprehend some of the rules from the BSPA rule book - especially when they seemed to be ever changing. He didn't think that the full rule book should be made available to fans either.
So 3 decades on & in respect of people thoughts on the guest replacements & the rule book things haven't seemed to change much, but speedway is still here.

I follow Sweden more than I do the British League (in which I tend to read about only Lakeside, Peterborough and any riders I particularly like). I think I would follow Swedish speedway if I could get a flight over there every Tuesday. Quality of racing is miles better than the rubbish we get every week and the fans over there seem to be more enthusiastic. Definitely going to visit all the Swedish tracks in the next few years.

What do you know? In fact, the opposite is true. I don't KNOW hence the use of IMHO and the word SEEM. If the opposite it true could you please make a post proving it, include your sources (i.e riders statements). To make the point beyond doubt I would venture to suggest that you would need riders opinions with experience of both lay downs and uprights. Not that any of that will change my opinion but if your opinion is a fact you will have no problem finding the proof, will you?

Thanks for the comments, the reason i posted this today, was because i had just read an article which said: " Speedway will go downhill if someone doesn't think of something to spice up the interest,in fact the only ones to cling to it will be hysterical 16 year old girls. The same riders are always winning, races where the four riders are strung out in a line, long waits between events, and the vast difference in standard between the teams" what do you all think ? Oh by the way, i forgot to say this south london press article appeared on friday june 10th, 1938
