a lot of jacques fellow bees, seem mighty confident of an easy victory tonight,if kb takes to the track, and the leagues top reserve pairing maintain their form, this could be close.

mmm I can only guess who I wouldn't be overly confident, although I do think we'll just edge it.

If I remember rightly, didn't sky have this as the televised meeting originally.

well the meeting they are showing I've never seen as it's 2004, so I don't mind too much. How odd it seems, Scott and Hans riding for the same team.

Just popped in to have a look at this one but gave up when I saw the updater. It really is awfully hard to read when it's done like that. Sorry, Sue.

Better showing from Reading, but yet again another meeting when the team didn't click all at the same time. Below expected performance from our reserves, but after the heroics the pair of them have put in over the past few weeks, you can't really knock them.
Pleasing to see Trav & Lemo looking more at the races. The Zagar we like to see turned up tonight as well, one duffer of a ride when he missed the gate, but gave full on effort for the 4 laps to catch the Coventry pair, and pissed all over Nicholls twice. ;D Janusz still holding his own in that heat leader spot with another double figure return.
Buck found things a little tough, had a good first ride, gating ahead of Nicholls & fat boy. Soon passed by Nicholls and just lost out to chubba on the line after taking too many looks back. Again plenty of effort and he does look a good prospect once he settles in & gets used to the track.
Difference between us winning & losing tonight was the returns from both teams reserves. But we were far from disgraced and it wasn't completely the easy ride many Cov fans were expecting.
Excellent crowd again for the new promotion with more people staying behind to watch the side cars than BSI used to get in for the speedway.

Do you think it's as simple as being called "The Racers" again, and people feel as though they have their own club back? I must say, it never had quite the same feeling racing against Reading "Bulldogs".

My guess is that the people of Reading feel that they can relate to the current promotion which was something that didn't happen with Postlethingy.............. who am I to say though.... over to you wacks.

I think someone on the BSF hit the nail on the head when they said it feels like OUR club again.
The whole feel of the place is different these days, and Racer X is also correct (again on BSF) that the fans seem happier losing under the new regime than we did winning under BSI.
Wellie has long been a favourite at Reading and has been a regular (in the bar) for many seasons now so Kev's also right in we have someone fronting us we can relate to. You know there'll be no bullshit with Wellie, he's as honest as the day is long.
There's lots of things which all add up. The name change back to the Racers, kids go free, freebies for kids, a team who generally seem happier under the new promotion, a promotion who are trying to give value for money. The sidecars tonight were great, and although it's not much but the kids (and a few adults) seem to enjoy the fireworks after every meeting too.
I think most of all though we have a promotion who listen to their customers and act on their comments. Wellie & Mark weren't keen on the idea of post meeting press conferences, but the fans like them, so after a thread on the Reading forum appeared supporting these press conferences the promotion brought them back immediately.
The new guys also show gratitude to those of us who do turn up and give our support. It used to piss me off big time standing in those press conferences & hearing Jim Lynch whinge about people not coming out to support the club after so much effort & cash had been put in to provide the team we wanted, blah blah blah - who was he whinging to? Those of us who had bothered to part with our cash & turn up!!!
I just hope it's not a honeymoon period and the fans continue to show their support. I can feel a couple of home wins coming on so that should keep the more fickle ones happy, although to be fair, nobody seems to be complaining about our results at the moment.

Why do you think that is, Wacks? The simple fact is that BSI finally got found out at Reading. They weren't as good at promotion as people who lap-up the GPs seemed to think, especially as for once they had to do it themselves.

Excellent meeting last night. Sky should really get together and have two sets of cameras at different tracks. Johnno surprised me a bit although I am still in a huff about the Bees getting rid of Morten. I reckon the Racers could have won it if their form hadn't dipped in the middle of the meeting. Good race with Sam and Bomber. Wasn't impressed with the programme. Seen better Conference league programmes.

Glad you enjoyed the meeting Braveheart. Track seems to be getting better although it was a bit slick last night. A blade was brought in to smooth it over, tons & tons of dirt added when Mark & Wellie took over, now they waiting for one of those "wonder wheels" to rough things up a bit. Nice to see Wellie taking a hands on approach & working the track mid meeting though isn't it. We were looking good at one stage, but as you say had a mid-meeting dip. How Sam can beat Bomber in one race and then lost to fad lad in another is, well weird. ;D Programme is a bit pants, but with there being a meeting last Friday & agian this Friday there wasn't a lot more content that could have be added really, maybe it could do with some old "Racers history" pieces of a bit of Racer X rambling again just to pad it out. It's not as glossy as the BSI version, but is a lot cheaper to produce, can't really blame Mark & Wellie for trying to reduce costs & maximise profits on the programme. This along with the gate receipts is the only income they get from fans coming into the stadium these days. BSI gave us a good programme but were shit promoters, Mark & Wellie give us a shit programme but seem good promoters..... I know which I prefer.
