I haven't quite understood the logic of these big money races to be honest. I mean, do the fans really give a stuff how much the winner gets? I don't.
Good prize money may attract a higher class of rider, but having a first/second/third place prize money makes much more sense to me. Winner take all is all hyperbole and big numbers to try and impress people and I don't think it does.
Whether the riders were wrong to split the money or being sensible is a matter of opinion, but it does show a major flaw in going with this "Big Money" nonsense which, to be honest, I found embarrassing at Germany last year the way they kept on about it and couldn't see much point to it this time either.
I actually find the fact that the four riders split the pot quite funny really, and Nicki letting on shows that they obviously can't see anything wrong with it.

Exactly. What do I care how much Nicki Pedersen earned for that meeting? From a fan's point of view it's about whether or not your favourite rider wins the race, not how much he gets paid for it. Isn't it?
Besides, if you were in a final against a Nicki Pedersen who had just won 4 straight races and had an opportunity to share the prize money, wouldn't you take it?

So what if they came to this agreement. Whichever of them won could have kept it all to himself & yet a generous gesture was made by each, no selfishness in that.

In reality, your second point could be construed as contradictory to your first? I think Star Lady might be right all along...

All I'm saying is that if Nicki P is on a roll then chances are that nobody is going to stop him. I don't see the two points as contradictory - and I have just tried - but merely two totally seperate points.

OK. Lets look at your first point about fans wanting to see their favourite riders win the race. Spending what they did and travelling maybe a long way for the privilege. For the sake of argument - I am one of those riders in final. We’ll also assume that as he had ‘the talking stick’ as it were NP suggested to me that as the meeting was of no great importance that who ever gated the others should let win, but he would share the prize money with me and the other two.
Now, I would think to myself , well, Nicki is on great form and it’s the start of a long season, so if I said no to him I might come last anyway and get nothing, but if I agree I cop 15 grand.
Not being a total idiot - I would most likely say yes wouldn‘t I? So having not gated that well and Nicki has, so I’ll settle for that.
So, regarding your second point; ultimately whom have I let down?

I think we need to keep some perspective here...if it was a fixed race/meeting then of course thats a completely different issue.

OK, so far we've got Ludicrous Drivel, Fozzie, Shovlar and The £15K Kids with under 48 hours gone. It could be an interesting week...........any more that spring to mind?
