The man is mentally ill for god's sake. How does that make him a flapperjack? Is it genuine, though, or just one of these modern-day publicity stunts that "celebrities" undertake every now and then? He's been mental ill since his teenage days - always 'puddled', sadly the tag-along's have always been around him.

Pauls Gascoine has always shown all the characteristics of Bi-Polar disorder (Manic-depression). I've been saying it for years! The trouble is that because he is who he is people have took his obviously 'manic' phases to be his 'normal' personality. When he's had his depressive phases they've excused it as his inability to cope with his notoriety. Fact is he has probably been ill for most of his adult life but has been 'protected' from getting the help he obviously needs by people who should have known better. I too object to his nomination as Flapperjack of the Week - you might as well nominate someone with cancer or MS!

Hmmm... we're coming to the end of week 1 and no outstanding candidates yet. Can we have some more speedway-based nominations - this is a speedway forum, after all.
Although I can't help thinking that in a couple of months Gazza will be fine, when he publishes a book or something, having gained from all the current publicity, I'm not picking him on the chance he is, acutally, genuinely ill. Sorry booeyboy.

Agree with you Lupus.
I have had (as those who know me) many problems with mental illness, with a complete breakdown in 2005 for which I only stopped receiving treament 3 months ago plus 3 bouts of post natal depression in my twenties. I have been threatened with being carted off several times to the local mental hospital as a danger to myself and was even placed with with a group for those recovering from mental illness and just out of hospital (I went to the first group and decided I would get even crazier making whicker baskets than I already was - although that was probably a bad move as my main breakdown came just a few months later!)
To me it is not a laughing matter, no matter how much of a prat you make of yourself at the time, although I must admit to laughing/cringing with some of the things I have done when my troubles have struck! But that is one thing to laugh at yourself and for someone else to take the piss out of you and say you are a flapperjack.
In this respect, I feel for people like Gazza and Britney Spears.

I wouldn't nominate the whole of the male gender, as firstly my other half has just made me a cuppa, and secondly, I'll be relying on KevH to back up my nomination for you for FOTW! ;D

As for my previous comments on the subject, well somebody has to wind up the 800-year-old Mongol every now and then.

Kev's on a time-limit now, or I shall make it a joint nomination!

In this respect, I feel for people like Gazza and Britney Spears. thing is though Sue, in a great number of your posts you will mention about not being able to afford something, or your marital problems and the aftermath, or the problems with your kids, or something that comes across and looks like you're after sympathy, whether it be your car or whatever, or something about a breakdown or mental illness. whether your posts are meant to be taken that way or not i don't know, but a lot of people have been through the same or worse but don't post it on the forums for everyone to see .. the biggest problem anyone can have is their health failing, and despite some having awful problems, it's not something that everyone has to read about. after that there are single parents that have things damn hard, people that have gone through shitty divorce, and people that generally have shit in their lives day in day out but don't feel the need to post on forums about it. for that, i nomunate tiddles as flapperjack. yeah i know i'll get untold shit for this as it's good old Sue doing the updates etc, but i just think sometimes some things should be kept at home. just my opinion of course.
