I'm now officially a fan of the Russians. Said on BSF they would qualify and I'm just delighted they did it in some style Yes, the usual fun and frollicks from the "mad Russians" tonight - Gizatullin was excellent value and Sajfutdinov showed signs of his enormous promise. A bit of an off-night for Gafurov, but the Ivanovs did well enough.

Well we won. Congratulations Team GB. ;D (Why is it everyone seems to be a mod on here this forum. I am developing an inferiority complex me thinks... ;D)

Well, apart from the first ten or so heats, I thought that was an entertaining meeting. A superb performance from Nicholls, but the opposition wasn't as hot as it'll be on Saturday. Sweden will be fortunate to pip the Russians for 3rd place in Leszno on Thursday, unless they can get Jonsson back on a bike.

Well, I feel somewhat vidicated in my support for Denis with his performance this evening. I've been saying for a few years now that someone should give Denis a go in the UK as he always looks sensational on the Russian tracks. However, I suspected that the UK tracks might be a bit too small for him given his normal racing style. He didn't look the same rider around Coventry as he was clearly trying to contain his normal style, but got faster and faster as the night went on.
I'm still not sure if Eastbourne is the best place for him to go, though! ;D

how old is he henry,he looks a good prospect He's actually getting on a bit now. I think he turned 24 earlier this year. Sajfutdinov is certainly the real gilt edged propect. He has bags of talent and good backup...but Bydgoszcz might not be too happy about him signing over here just yet

After all the crap I took from a foreign sounding patriot, I'd just like to point out that the GB riders tonight, Richardson apart, did not attempt to sing the National Anthem Or are riders exempt from patriotism

Have to say, henryw, I was thinking of you every time Gizatullin was on track tonight. I know very well that you've championed his cause for a while now, just as you've championed the cause of PePe Protasiewicz. I reckon Gizatullin and Co will push the Swedes hard on Thursday, but Australia and Poland should easily go through.

It's normally fabulous racing there, so let's hope Ole gets kept well away from it!! Now that Denis has made something of a name for himself over here, I'll have to move onto the others on my list. Expect me to be talking about 15 year old Russian Artem Vodyakov and 20 year old Ukrainian Andrei Karpov more from now on.

I'm sure the Leszno track staff will pay lip-service to Mr Olsen, while ignoring him completely and preparing according to the dictate of the Polish team. Karpov rides for Unia Tarnow in Poland, doesn't he?

Karpov rides for Unia Tarnow in Poland, doesn't he? Nah, he's teamed up with Chrzanowski and found himself some Lotos backing up in Gdansk in the 1st League. Unfortunately, he's not having much of a season there, to be honest. He has looked great in the meetings I have seen him in around his home track of Rovno this season, though....so I still have some hope for him The 15 year old Russian is definitely one to keep an eye on. He's running over a 7 point average in the Russian League, and turns 16 next week...so expect to see him start appearing abroad shortly!

Yes, you're right, Karpov was with Rzeszow last season - it's Danil Ivanov that's with Unia Tarnow this season.
