I think it was his birthday, wasn't it? The Turnip can't possibly have the same birthday as the mighty Gollob. Anyway, he was there - said he enjoyed the meeting on the BSF thread.

I can understand people willing Stead to succeed, but reality has to kick in at some stage - all that locking up and hanging off the bike looks spectacular, but it kills momentum.

Thats what it's about ,willing a rider in your team to do well..Luckily he hasn't taken anyone out yet.. ::)It's not pleasant to watch..

That's why he's had so many injuries - when he's locking up and hanging off the bike, he's vulnerable to someone clattering into him.

You could argue his style is a throw back from the 60's. They would go in very deep and hard (with sometimes the clutch lever dragging in the dirt) and then locking up from mid turn onwards. Its a Barry Briggs/Peter Craven style. Now, its a case of getting the wheels in line as soon as is possible, to get forward momentum, and that is encouraged by the slick tracks of today. I think he just needs some serious coaching from the likes of Ivan Mauger or Peter Collins.

Thought not, but Jacques will confirm that I have mentioned coaching for the lad several times. Unfortunately I think he's been around too long to change that style. To see him fall last night nearly made me apoplectic. Worst signing for years. Knew we were shagged when I saw the team make up in full.

As you may see i'm in the stop locking/hanging Stead troupe as well.
As Jacques has pointed out it's not really a criticism, just a will for him to succeed, it's about time he upped the ante & proved he's as good as he should be, he'll never do that while he continues doing so & risking more injury. He did show what a superb rider he can be against Hampel last week.

Glad you are being positive but I am rapidly losing interest in the Bees season and will miss the Poole match on Friday to go to an AGM. He needs to recognise he has a problem and to seek some help.

Aww its not that bad surely UHR? Its only the start of the season; did not the Bees turn it around a couple of seasons back? I did actually predict that they would win it that season on the BSF if my memory serves me correct. (Just a lucky guess though of course..)
Off topic, UHR we are out at Scarborough next weekend with a stand. They have a few hill climbs during the season; do you ever participate in those at Olivers Mount?

Sorry but I don't see any way back this season, however early it is. The signs are poor. Off topic, UHR we are out at Scarborough next weekend with a stand. They have a few hill climbs during the season; do you ever participate in those at Olivers Mount? My friend Harry (no relation) used to marshal at Olivers Mount many years ago. I have never been. My home hill is the World Famous Shelsley Walsh (established 1905) . I am the speed hill climb correspondent to Autosport, Motorsport News and occasionally to the old green top Motor Sport. Tomorrow I will be at Mallory Park for round 3 of the 2008 British Sprint Championship which is integrated with a Superkart meeting. Question is, can I survive a Mallory paddock cafe breakfast after signing on. Speedway is just my 3 hours a week release from other pressures.

Funny really on Wednesday night - I was praising Roynon and his ability to go wide at Perry Barr and never look like they locking-up and how it was good to see him avoid the Stead-esque speed killers moves. In his last heat, third bend he bloody locked up! ;D My Uncle immediately mentioned how that was like Stead.

How old is he now? 26 I believe, can he not work to rectify it?..I know you've commented on it maybe being to late..The thing is he is out on his bike after every meeting...So he's certainly got commitment ....I'm not going to completely write off him off,or our season...well ,not just yet anyway..

Is anyone else having problems with it today? Seems to be taking forever to load a page.
