SHEFFIELD co-promoter Damien Bates is expecting an exciting start to the 2016 season after the release of the Premier League fixture list.
The Window Centre Tigers will face two inter-league challenge matches against Leicester before kicking off their League Cup campaign with a local derby clash at Scunthorpe on Sunday, March 27.
They will then host Peterborough in their first competitive home fixture on Thursday, March 31 before completing their remaining four League Cup meetings by April 21.
Bates is confident they can overcome the absence of Jason Garrity for their first two home League Cup meetings to progress to the next round.
With Garrity’s fixture clashes out of the way early, he hopes they will be “firing on all cylinders” when they get their Premier League season underway as they look to mount a title challenge.
Bates said: “We are looking forward to our two meetings against Leicester to start the season, and I think they’ll be quite evenly matched meetings to be honest.
“It will be a good opener for our team and the fans to see an Elite League team at Owlerton and hopefully we will give them a good meeting to get ourselves warmed up for the season.
“We’ve got a tough group in the League Cup with some big meetings, but we are confident we can beat anybody at Sheffield and we’ll try to pick up enough points away from home as well.
“In the first couple of League Cup home matches we’ll be missing Jason (Garrity) because of fixture clashes with Coventry, but we are already working on getting in good guests so we aren’t under strength.
“They are the only clashes we have, so we’ll get those out of the way earlier and shouldn’t have to worry about being without him for any meetings then.
“We want to win every competition, but the Premier League is obviously the big one and so we are pleased we will have Jason for those meetings.
“Our Premier League fixtures don’t start until the end of April, so hopefully by then our new riders will have got themselves sorted around Owlerton and we’ll be firing on all cylinders.”

From the SGB website:: ::::::::::::: SIMON Stead will take his first laps back at Sheffield this Thursday – and he can’t wait.
The Tigers skipper has returned to the saddle after suffering horrific multiple injuries almost a year ago, and he’s come through with no ill-effects after teaming up with British youngsters in France.
Stead said: “It was such a great feeling to get back on track and get some laps under my belt. When you've been out injured for as long as I have, the first time back on a bike is always quite daunting but I felt good.
“Your main concern is that you're always going to feel a bit of strain on wherever you got injured but I didn't have any twinges at all.
“Since I got back, I've spent a couple more mornings in the gym to continue boosting my fitness levels, I'm feeling really good right now and I can't wait to get together with the team at Press and Practice.”Attachments:

From the SGB website: ::::::::: PLAY-OFF hero Kyle Howarth is staying with Sheffield Tigers for the 2017 season.
Howarth hit top form to help the side through to the final showdown with Somerset last month and his return will go down well with fans.
Club co-promoter Damien Bates is pleased to get the deal done with one of his star riders.
“We’re delighted to welcome Kyle back to the club,” he said. “He enjoyed a brilliant end to the season and he’s a great lad to have around the place.
“We still feel there’s plenty more to come from him and I’m sure he’s in for a big year.
“It’s so far so good with team building with Kyle and new faces Lasse Bjerre and Jack Parkinson-Blackburn with more to follow soon.” Howarth, meanwhile, has revealed how grateful he is to the club for taking a gamble on him last winter.
He said: “I didn’t have a great season in 2015, but Sheffield gave me a chance. They took a gamble on me and I showed I can do it. I’d like to do the same again, and I’m just working hard over the winter to make sure I’m in the best shape possible for next season.
“It’s a long winter, but I’m working hard to sort out bikes and keep myself in good shape fitness wise. I’ll be ready to go in March and hopefully I can make 2017 another good year.”Attachments:

From the SGB website::: ::::::: SHEFFIELD have been given a winter boost after striking a deal to keep their long-term sponsors on board.
Award-winning Sheffield Window Centre will back the Owlerton club for an 11th straight season and company boss Ian Hunter says he’s pleased that the relationship will continue.
“We’ve supported the Tigers for a long time now and we’ll be back for next year,” said Ian.
“The team is looking promising and there’s every hope that they can go one better than last season.”
Team boss Damien Bates says it’s one of the best partnerships in speedway.
“Ian’s been around for a long time and even though he doesn’t court publicity he deserves it for all he does for the sport,” he said.
“He’s a big fan, follows the team at home and away and apart from being sponsor is an important part of our structure.”
Meanwhile, the company landed a major honour last week when they won a top gong at the industry’s G16 Awards at London’s Hilton Hotel.
Said Ian: “We were named Installer of the Year which is a big thing for us and it’s a credit to all the hard work put in by everyone at the company.”Attachments:

From the SGB website:: ::::: SHEFFIELD have snapped up Josh Grajczonek to lead their 2017 SGB Championship bid.
The Aussie ace has made the switch from Somerset after the Oaktree Arena outfit stepped up to the top flight.
The 26-year-old arrives on an 8.90 average and joins Josh Bates, Kyle Howarth, Lasse Bjerre and Jack Parkinson-Blackburn in their new-look side.
Grajczonek is delighted to have sealed a move to the Window Centre Tigers and believes Owlerton will prove a perfect fit.
“It feels pretty good to sign for Sheffield,” Grajczonek said. “To be fair I love riding the track and it’s only 40 minutes from home so it will cut my travelling down a lot which is great. I’m looking forward to it.
“The travelling is a big thing. I clocked up close to 40,000 miles driving all over the UK last season and it wrecked me.
“I like to say I ride big tracks well, without being big headed, so it’s an ideal move for me.
“You always have targets but we don’t like to tell them too often. I’m setting myself up better than ever for next season.”
Meanwhile, co-promoter Damien Bates is thrilled to have Grajczonek on board for next season.
He added: “We’re really pleased to have Josh riding for us next season. He’s a top class rider with a lot of experience at this level and I’m sure he’ll do a great job.”
