I'm posting this on here, as we seem to have generated some discussion and it is slightly connected to the Witches: www.potterspower.com/D/news.htmand for those of you who can't be bothered to click the link: Potters withdraw from The Premier League
STOKE Potters have made the dramatic announcement that they have withdrawn from the Premier League and have applied to join the National League for the 2011 season.
Potters promoter Dave Tattum said, “Due to having made substantial losses over the past three seasons, and the current financial climate, we think the only way forward is to take a step back and rebuild the club and our finances.”
“Our aim is to build a team of talented young British riders that will be Stoke assets and help drive our return to the Premier League in a couple of seasons. Through our training schools and training days, along with the amateur meetings that take place at Loomer Road, we will be working tirelessly to achieve that aim. “
“This has been one of the most difficult decisions we have ever taken and certainly wasn’t taken lightly. We have thought long and hard about this since our last meeting in October and we want to do what is right for the club. We believe this is the right way forward.”
“I hope our supporters will understand why we have had to make this decision. It is to build for the future and return the club to the Premier League in a position of financial strength and with a strong crop of British riders.”
“We will be holding a supporters forum after Christmas, so that supporters can come along and ask questions.”
“National League Coordinator, Peter Morrish has welcomed Stoke and hopes they will be a leading light in the league. I’d also like to thank the British Speedway Promoters Association management committee for their help and support in making this decision and especially Angela Price at the Speedway Office.”
Why do I get the feeling this is only the start of it? More announcements like this on the way I fear. I wonder what the odds are on there being no Elite League next year, just one giant Premier League? The only thing that stops me thinking that is the fact that a number of clubs have already announced signings which wouldn't fit in the Premier - and we are one of them! Given everything that's already been said though, about fans not coming if it's a diluted product, would that still apply if the only thing that was on offer was Premier and National? Surely if you're a speedway fan, you want to watch speedway. If all teams were reasonably equal, it would still be a good product. It is true that I can fly to Poland or Sweden to watch a meeting cheaper than it costs me to get to Belle Vue, but I'm not sure that many people will take that option.

Well, it looks like this topic and club will have to be moved to the PL section, now we have been confirmed as PL for 2011.
Hopefully Ipswich can re-group and start the road to challenging for honours once again.
Must say the plus for me, is that we will have near enough weekly meetings again and 13 other visiting teams ;D

Probably fewer "no shows" as well. Always enjoyed my visits to Piswitch. If anything can tempt me back onto the terraces it's a trip to Suffolk

Including Lynn, might even get SL out of her self imposed exile (and Easter is a bit later next year so might not be too cold). Hope that Ipswich can make a go of PL and that fans are not so snobbish that they turn their back on the club
Edit: Great I dont post in months and then SL goes and beats me to it (back into hibernation)

From ipswichspeedway:
Ipswich Witches Director of Speedway Chris Louis is delighted that the club has been accepted in to the Premier League, saying, " After an eleventh hour bid to secure the finance and riders to remain in the Elite League fell through we were left with no alternative but to move in to the Premier League and begin to rebuild the clubs finances and of course the asset base too. I have to thank the BSPA and the existing Premier League promoters for their understanding of our situation and indeed the very warm welcome we were given. I am really looking forward to 2011 with the new teams and faces plus the added bonus of racing virtually every Thursday at Foxhall throughout the summer months. In particular I am quite excited at the thought of renewing our rivalry with our Norfolk cousins at Saddlebow Road and of course a new derby day with Rye House." More reaction to follow...

Well it seems our future for 2011 is sorted (thank goodness) however not so with the rumours of the Bees and the Horrors walking out of AGM . What on earth is going on with the EL Think JL and CL might have made a shrewd move, if for the "wrong reason" (ie lack of funds) by the sounds of it.
