Stead? ?? FFS, why? ? I don't understand either - Stead's been in before and failed. Give Ben Barker a chance. His league form is iffy at the moment, but he's a rider for the big occasion - he showed that during the British Final at Wolves. And furthermore Ben is a Norfolk Arena track specialist - it's a "leave your brain in the toolbox and rev the throttle" track and that suits Ben.

Stead seems the right call to me given his form in the BEL and in GP Qualifying. A rider who has improved his game a great deal in the last 12 months and is definitely heading in the right direction. Wait for the inevitable "This could be Simon Stead's season to break into the bigtime" quote from Shouter Pearson then..... again..... for the umpteenth year in succession..... Could've been worse he could have picked Wobbler Kennett

Rico Heading in the right direction? He's been stood still for about five years. Stead is not a youngster - he must be pushing around 30.

I'd say statistics for this season would suggest that Stead's average has increased this season. wheras Barker's has gone Stead has qualified for the GP Challenge in Vojens - Barker ?? Stead never rode for Oxford - Barker ? Oh yeah, I see your rationale now, Genghis. Rico

Stead never rode for Oxford - Barker ? Oh yeah, I see your rationale now, Genghis. And that's why I was heavily criticisng Alun Rossiter, who has rode for Oxford. Oh dear, your argument seems to fall down there, Rico Don't see what the GP Challenge has to do with it, that's AFTER the World Cup, so it doesn't give Stead knowledge of the track. And the respective showing of the two riders at the British Final shows who can raise their game. League form goes out of the window - it's all about who can raise their game for the big ocassion. And past World Cup failure, the ageing Simon Stead, cannot.

I'd hardly call Rossiter popular with Oxfordians, given his connections with Swindon. I don't think 28 yo Mr Stead is exactly at the end of his career and as pointed out previously is having a much improved season than last season and is the clear form pick for the event. Barker it seems is not progressing this year and is a good couple of points off Stead's average in the EL. Stead has also managed to get through a couple of meetings for qualification to the GP Challenge. Barker may well be good enough in time, but that time is not now. Rico

Rico, well we'll wait and see how Stead does around King's Lynn. And if he does badly, I'll be the first to say "I told you so"

No, I just said Auty should be under consideration, which no doubt he was. He was sensational at Somerset last Friday, although no doubt as an EL snob, you would discount that performance. And you've changed your tune - I thought you didn't want Woffinden in the team?

That's hilarious, i dare say the Poles and Danes were monitoring the meeting very closely!

To me, the best young Brits are Woffinden, Ben Barker, Josh Auty and Joe Haines, the British Under-21 Champ. And Bridger, if he ever gets his head sorted out. Haines beat Woffinden and Bridger in the Under-21 Championship, despite the fact he is a Premier League rider. Sadly it seems he is currently comtemplating his future in the sport. That's very sad, because he's got a lovely style. And dear chap, guess which league Jack Young was riding in, in 1951, when he won the world title.

And which league did Stoney ride in during his stint in the GPs? And Zetterstrom, currently mixing it in the GPs and doing rather well, where did he ride a few years ago? Wasn't it Somerset?
