If it were solely down to you to pick the field for the GPs, who would be in, and why? My list would be the entertainers, not necessarily those who could compete with one another.

I am increasingly drawn to the conclusion that there are only around 8-10 riders worthy of a place in a GP series. It's not just the talent, it's the support infrastructure required as well. That's why Sajfutdinov has done so well - he inherited the Rickardsson team, which allied to his incredible talent has made him such an immediate force.

Scott Nicholls score today - 2 points from 3, then replaced by Maciej Janowski. And I was referring to your line-up being almost the same as the current one, only without the Brits and Ulamek. |

Emil didn't "inherit" TRick's team...Emil went out and asked ONE person from TRick's team to come and work with him, and offered him a different job from the one that he had with TRick.....hardly "inheriting" the Rickardsson team.... Tomasz Suskiewicz was open to approach from any rider in the World, but Emil was the one that convinced Tomasz to work with him. Should we also say that Emil inherited Nicki's team because big Ash works with him?? If anyone is responsible for the success of Emil (other than Emil due to his talent) the credit should probably go to Bogdan Sawarski who has essentially bankrolled Emil's career since he signed for Polonia. I do, however, agree that there are probably only about 8-10 riders that are worthy of being in a 15 rider series full time. I don't think that is any different from any other time in speedway's history, and is perfectly natural...There will always be a few in any sport that are consistently better than the rest. The problem, to me, is the fact that the series is now restricted to 15 full time riders. I much preferred the days of the 24 rider field. There ARE probably about 20-25 riders that are able to deliver a good challenge to the top guys on "their day", but "their day" doesn't come around every two weeks. The old format allowed those guys to get up and challenge when they were having a good day, but also allowed them to piss off home after 2 races when they weren't.... It might not have been as "fair", but as entertainment, I think the 24 rider format delivered far better than the current format.... |

Ooops....I just realised that after my previous ramble, I didn't even answer the original question....
As I implied in the previous post, if I was in charge I would bring back the 24 rider format, and I would have the following riders in it as permanent members, picked purely because I believe that they are the best around just now...(based on having 2 wildcards per round as they did in the 24 rider days)

Well, I will buck the trend and actually if I was in charge I would stop them completely.
Although I hate an "I told you so attitude" when this years line was announced I said at the time that it would be boring, and that is what it has been this year I'm afraid...even more boring than previously.
So I would scrap the GP circus, and introduce a World Team Cup series.
I must admit I have only attended 1 GP this year but that was enough, but I attended the WTC at Peterborough and it was brilliant, as was the televised other rounds and final.
