By the way, big g, what did your signature say? Something about the sex of John Branney. The bit about Krasnikov will be restored in due course.

One pass does not an exciting career make. The rest of Haikkanen's wins were taken from the front. For a double World Champion, he was shocking in traffic. In fact, he was shocking for a double World Champion full stop. Just shows the lack of talent in F1 in the 1994-2004 period.

Anyway, going back to the question, Barrichello's also on the dirty side of the grid, which means Button has the advantage at the start. However, I wouldn't rule out Vettel - the only other time he's started on pole he won the race. A good driver.

Well the time you predicted Crump would win the 2008 WC was pretty funny.

And I'm ganging up on Sub as well by saying that Haikkanen was probably the poorest double World Champion that F1 has seen. Crikey, Haikkanen even struggled to beat Eddie Irvine - who, while being a great guy, wasn't by any means the fastest bloke in the F1 paddock. Had Schumacher not paid off the Toad to only put 3 wheels on Irvine's wagon - then Eddie would have been 1999 World Champion.

Not for a full season. He came in as a replacement and drove for two different teams over six races.

Not for a full season. He came in as a replacement and drove for two different teams over six races. Well, yes obviously. Anyway my orginal post listed 1994-2004, because up until 1993, Senna & Prost were still about and winning most of the races. It was only after Prost's retirement and Senna's death, plus the departure of Mansell the year before, that Schumacher starting regularly winning races (he did win the two first races of 1994, before Senna's death, but only because Senna retired from both races). He couldn't beat Senna, Prost and Mansell, he had to wait until the competition was removed to start winning races.
