Okay, so maybe this should be placed in the Poole section, but it's also as relevant, if not more relevant for Belle Vue, it's a story from the local paper down in Dorset regarding Screen's preparations for the new season:
Pirates new boy Joe Screen has admitted: “It’s make or break for me this season” after revealing he’d shed more than one stone in weight in just 10 days.
The former Belle Vue rider, 36, heads off to the French Alps for high altitude training with some of his Poole Castle Cover team-mates tomorrow.
But before he jets out to La Plagne for the training camp, Screen said: “It was me who wanted the clause in my contract with Matt Ford about my weight.
“It’s something I wanted to act as an incentive to get fitter.
“I’ve already lost more than one stone, but I still have to lose more weight. I want to lose another stone.
“I have to do better than that to get to where I agreed to be with Matt before the start of the season.”
Screen, accused of being overweight by some Pirates fans on internet forums, added: “Part of the deal is I’ll be weighed in front of Matt each week during the season.
“That’s what my contract states. But I can see the weight falling off now, so I feel I’ve made a good start.
“I read that Belle Vue felt ‘Joe needs to sort out his life after speedway’ in their end of season report in Speedway Star last year and that’s been a big wake up call to me.
“It’s the kick up the backside that has set me up on a new course and, consequently, I’ve changed everything about my approach to riding.
“I’m now doing things I haven’t done for five or six years since I broke my leg in 2001.
“Since then I’ve just ridden on natural ability and not put a big effort in. But since New Year, I’ve been in the gym three hours a day, seven days a week.
“I’m also running five kilometres a day, having regular saunas and I’ve completely changed my diet, although, ironically, I’m eating more food now than I was before, but I’m eating the right stuff at the right times.
“On Christmas Eve I quit my job as a trainee engineer with North West Hardware, so I could return to being a professional speedway rider.
“Now I can concentrate on gym work, running and Enduro racing, which is good on-bike winter training.
“I’ve brought Greg Hancock’s ex-mechanic Louis Carr in to mechanic for me and I’ve switched engine tuners to Peter Johns.
“So it’s all change because I intend to make my time at Poole a success.”

That's got to be a kick in the bollocks for fans of the Aces, as Joe Screen, so revered by many who follow the Grand Old Lady, has been basically pissing about during his recent time with the club, but is now going to get his act together.
No doubt had Screen remained in Manchester, an overweight Screen would've turned up again.
