Yes I thought that was the case but I didn't want to speculate until it was confirmed. I'm not going to make any judgements on him - I think enough people will be doing that, and I can't see it being in any way constructive. I know I've had my opinions of his performance in the GP and for Belle Vue, but I've also been pleased to see his recent turn-around since dropping to reserve, and I stand by my convictions that he could benefit from a less busy schedule.
I think this is a very sad story and hope it's just a knee-jerk reaction and nothing more serious. Furthermore I hope that Antonio reconsiders his decision – with the right guidance and less pressure I'm sure he can regain the spark.

Does this put his involvement at Gelsenkirchen in question?

Antonio Lindbäck quits speedwayFather: the pressure became too greatThis weekend, speedway star Antonio Lindbäck was caught suspected of drunk driving. He now chooses to end his career. -The way he sees it, his speedway life is over, says his father to aftonbladet.se Early Sunday morning, Antonio Lindbäck, 22, was stopped by the police. He had his car keys in hand and and the police suspected him of being drunk. It's the second time that the MasarnaAvesta-star is caught for drunk-driving. Three years ago he was stopped with 0.38 per mille alcohol in his blood. Has to enjoy it-What he says right now, is that it's all over with speedway, says his father Ola Lindbäck to aftonbladet.se -Sure I think it's nice if he rides speedway, but he has enjoy it as a person aswell. Today Masarna held a press-conference about this event. Antonio himself could not bring himself to attend. -He's totally broken about what's happened. We are all devastated and there is no defence to this, says Ola Lindbäck. The problems has come over the last few years with a career that has been developing worse than expected. -Antonio has made a rocket-career in speedway. He is still the youngest rider in the Grand Prix, but this year has been difficult. In Poland's Elite League he has only been allowed to ride in half of the matches. In the Grand Prix he's in the bottom. At the same time the pressure to perform has increased, says Ola Lindbäck. Rock-hard demands-In the Grand Prix he feels he has to defend the honor of Sweden and in Poland they put rock-hard demands on the riders. During the season Antonio has suffered two injuries which have forced him to lenghty breaks. That and the bad performances have affected MasarnaAvestas economy. Antonio has blamed himself for that aswell, says his dad. -He hasn't been able to cope with it all. Because of that, alcohol has been a way out, to calm down. What happens now?-First of all we have to come trough this business with the police. Then he will try and come back to a healthy life, with or without speedway. The results from the blood tests taken during the weekend are expected in one to two weeks. EDIT: This is by no means a perfect translation. But I hope you get the gist of the article from Aftonbladet. I was in a hurry

C'est la vie - don't ask don't get! ;D I suppose it would be unreasonable to have the German Champion in the German GP... No worries though, I'm not going to open that can of worms again! Besides, I'm too tired to try to 'fathom the un-fathomable' that is the BSI / IMG decision-making process

Well that's a turn around in such a short space of time!
He's still young enough to reach to top in speedway, but needs to address the way in which he goes about getting there this time round.
Great to see it seems he's not been lost to the sport though.

Lindbäck is already in controversy over his comeback and decision to ride for Vargarna. Last night the board of Masarna issued a statement on their homepage where they publicly displayed their disappointment in how Antonio has handled this transfer and his lack of communication with the club who has always stood by him during his career. The statement ended, rather bitterly; We wish Anton good luck but as we see it, we now have one less problem to handle.
Vargarna will also have to pay a fee of 100.000 SEK to Masarna as an education grant, since Lindbäck is still only 23.
This has sparked lively debate among speedway fans where some see Masarna as bitter and holding grudges, while others think Antonio has been very unloyal to his "speedway home".

I find this a bit strange, he only quit a few months ago. I wonder what his motivation for returning is? I'd have though he would a least sit this season out and sort himself out... but hey, good luck to him, but I can't help feeling it might be a mistake.
