Mixed news for Tigers fans from the Mildenhall Web Site:-
Mildenhall co-promoter, Jonathan Chapman, has returned from a positive British Speedway annual conference confirming that the Fen Tigers will compete in the new National League, subject to a noise abatement order on their home at the Mildenhall stadium in West Row, being lifted before January 2009.
It is not great news for Mildenhall fans but the future of the club is in the hands of the stadium owners, Keith Chapman explained the situation he has found his new club in "When we purchased the club the previous owner didn’t make us aware of any problems concerning the planning, but the club in actual fact had received a noise abatement order. Fortunately we haven’t been fined for breaking that order as we were unaware of it but we do now have to have that order removed to run any more speedway racing at Mildenhall. The only way to remove the order is for a sound barrier to built around the stadium and although work has started on this we can only wait to see if it is completed in time for us to declare our intent to race in the new National league."
"It would be great if we could enter the Fen Tigers into the league as it promises to be a much more professional set up then the Conference league ever was. I know the fans would enjoy that and we would enjoy it too. I hope that this doesn’t serve as too bad a news for the Mildenhall fans but there was no point telling anyone about the problem before now. We will keep fans updated of any developments as and when they happen but may we just ask them to be patient for the time being."

Just moving this to the Mildenhall board, which is now in the right section - hope that's okay. If anyone knows any of the other confirmed teams in this league can they please post them so I can re-order things here?

Fingers crossed for Mildenhall, Sittingbourne, Exeter, Buxton and possibly even Norwich, who I'm led to believe have a planning application in!!!

MILDENHALL Stadium owner Ron Coventry is confident the installation of a £40,000 noise acoustic barrier will be completed in time for the Fen Tigers to race in 2009. He allayed supporters' fears that a noise abatement order imposed on the West Row venue by Forest Heath District Council could force the closure of speedway, and assured fans that work on the barrier is on schedule for completion by January 1. This would then allow the Tigers to confirm their place in next season's new National League. Coventry said: "We have completed everything else that has been requested of us to meet the requirements by lowering the speaker levels and closing roller-shutters that are used during stock car meetings. We have erected some of the building work for the acoustic noise barrier, which has been an expensive outlay at £40,000 and it stands at three metres in places. The minimum requirement is that it covers three-quarters of the stadium, but we shall be covering the whole of the area. It is due to be finished by January 1 and I don't envisage any problems with it. The only thing that can slow it up is bad weather. We will have then met all of their recommendations. It is being put together as per the Council's specifications and the work is inspected each week. We initially heard of the complaint last year, which has come from one person who lives underneath the flight path of the runway, a noise expert investigated and it went from there." Coventry and his brother Dave bought the stadium only five months ago for a reported £2million from James Waters, having run their hugely successful RDC Promotions Stock car meetings there for 15 years. He added: "I know Buster Chapman (Fen Tigers co-owner) really well from when we staged stock car and speedway meetings alongside each other at King's Lynn. "It was a relationship that worked well before, and I'm sure both parties will enjoy that success again." www.mildenhallspeedway.com

A very sorry business this whole affair.
As always, it's the fans that suffer, so I hope a buyer will be found and the track can be saved.......although I guess time is against that happening?
Without going into the rights and wrongs of both parties, I can't help feeling that even some Kings Lynn fans don't agree with what's happened here, and the Chapmans could feel some kind of backlash at the Norfolk Arena.

The latest news from West Row, taken from the Newmarket Journal:-
A DECISION on the future of Mildenhall Fen Tigers speedway team is expected early next week. Talks have taken place between the Fen Tigers' current owners Jonathan and Keith Chapman and West Row stadium owners RDC Promotions, with a potential buyer for the club, which was put up for sale in December.
Dave Coventry, of RDC Promotions, said: "I am fairly confident that the Tigers will be racing in 2009 but a final deal has yet to be completed.
"Talks have been ongoing with myself and Keith Chapman as the interested party is still trying to make all the figures work out.
"With the present economic situation, sponsorship and financial backing is not easy to find and the prospective buyer is still looking into these areas."
Should the deal not materialise, Coventry indicated that RDC Promotions would consider a last-ditch attempt to save the West Row-based club from shutting its gates by running the club themselves.
He said: "If we took over the club it would be as a last resort as we have so many other commitments here."

Taken from Friday's Cambridge Evening News:-
A THREE-MAN consortium are expected to complete their takeover of Mildenhall imminently as negotiations reach the final stages.
Speaking for the first time, one of the consortium members revealed to the News that an agreement has been reached on the price for the promoting licence with current promoter Keith Chapman and that dealings with stadium owner Dave Coventry are nearing completion.
The source, who cannot be named at this stage, confirmed: "We are getting very close and I am quietly confident that we will conclude the deal very shortly.
"I can only apologise to the supporters that things have taken this long, but it will be worthwhile as we will run the club in a professional and value-for-money way.
"We are not in it for just this season. We are making sure that everything is in place with the intentions for the long-term future and prosperity of the Fen Tigers.
"Everyone is fully committed and we are adamant that we get the credibility back that has been missing for the past couple of years.
"We have made a lot of ground in a relatively short space of time considering there were other parties who were also negotiating.
"I hope the supporters will give us their full backing and we will give them a team to be proud of in the new National League.
"The wait will be worthwhile, I can assure them."
Chapman echoed those sentiments, stating: "In a way I am happy that they are taking their time and covering all angles.
"That way they will make sure everything is right for the long-term benefit of the club, rather than jumping in and it all goes wrong."

From yesterdays Cambridge News:
Mildenhall have agreed terms with two riders as they attempt to assemble a competitive National League side that will banish the memories of last season's horror show.
The prospective new owners - a three-man consortium - confirmed that a heat leader and second string have agreed to join the Fen Tigers, who lost all of their league fixtures last term. But will not reveal their identities until the deals are f ormally completed.
The head of the consortium, who also does not wish to be named as they close in on sealing their takeover of the West Row club, revealed that they have had discussions with seven riders in all, in a bid to build an 'attractive and entertaining' team.
The source confirmed: "As well as the two riders that have agreed terms, I am also having ongoing discussions with two heat leaders as we wish to build a team based around a very strong top five.
"That would allow us to develop two young juniors at reserve with no pressure on their shoulders which, hopefully, would benefit us in the long-term.
"We want to build an attractive and entertaining side that will give us a real chance of having success and giving entertainment to the supporters."
Mildenhall are behind the remaining nine NL clubs in terms of team building, with at least half of them having already completed their one-to-seven.
The source added: "We have finalised the agreement with current promoter Buster Chapman and we must thank him for his co-operation and patience in helping us with the deal. We really appreciate his support.
"We are still having ongoing negotiations with stadium owner Dave Coventry and have been organising a lot of behind-the-scenes issues to ensure the smooth running of meetings.
"Hopefully, we can soon be at a stage when we can announce our takeover as it is reaching a critical stage."
